We have a full length window in our lounge (takes up the whole wall) with a garden in front. I am trying to get plants or shrubs that are either red or white. We have a view from this window so dont want to block this view hence nothing tall. What on earth can I plant. What I have planted has turned to a disaster!!

Mexican Orange Blossom (or Choisya ternata) is not a good choice for in front of a picture window. Yes, it has lovely white flowers but some people find the smell of them obnoxious (personally, I like it). Also, it grows to a height of about 2 metres unless you keep pruning it, then it grows all the quicker!
Rock Rose (Cistus lusitanicus) is an ideal candidate for your situation. It's easy care, flowers from late spring right through summer, has pretty 5 petal white flowers, each petal having a dark spot near the middle, and it has a yellow centre. It's evergreen, hardy and grows to only about 60cm. Here's a picture of it, and the same website has myriad options to help you make your choices.

The small red dwarf "Blush" Nandina domestica bamboo - [www.landscapegardeningplants.co.nz]
The very low, carpeting plant with grey-green leaves and masses of white flowers - Cerastium Tomentosum also known as Snow-in-Summer. It spreads and blankets the ground, so you would need to trim it's edges off (easily done with garden shears, just snip, snip, snip and it's done once or twice a year) to prevent it growing beyond the area you want it to cover. Not sticking to your red or white colours, you could plant different types of thyme (the herb). Many of them have pink/mauve coloured flowers but there are white flowering thymes too.
