You really have to keep up a spraying timetable all year. I know most of us are reluctant to use sprays now. But I'm afraid they seem to be the only things that work. Black spot is a fungus, which is perpetuated by the spoors on the leaves that fall onto the ground. It is a bit of a nuisense having to pick up the dropped leaves. Especially when you are a busy person. Go to your nursery and ask for a spray to combat black spot.

thanks Carolyn!
My mother had every type of rose that existed, I think and every book. she knew what each one was called. in fact mums gardens were so beautiful people would knock on the door and ask to see all of it!!! Mum worked 7 days and usually 10 to 12 hour days BUT she always found time for the garden, in twilight you would go out at 10.30 at night and say "please come inside now its really getting too dark" and she would begrudgingly come inside. if she did get a day off the majority of it would be in the garden.
At Denheath house mum would have a different rose on every table and everyone would ask their names.
So I kick myself that when she was alive, up until my late 20's, I never asked her all about gardening, I wasn't quite at the interested point. So I am glad this forum is here and I have people I can ask!
Thank you
Kindest Regards
