School Leavers Dinner

School Leavers Dinner November 14, 2004 10:45PM |
My sister has been asked to organize the School leavers dinner at our local Primary school, and has asked me to assist her.
There will be approx 75 persons(children and parents) with the Form 1s (or whatever the equivalent year is)serving the Form 2s.
My Sis has called a meeting next week for interested parties ( which may not be many as there were no volunteers when the request went out initially).
Could any of you "foodlovers" offer suggestions as to a two course menu, with a limited budget in mind, which could be prepared in homes and brought to the hall.
Thanking you in anticipation.

Don't know if you're after something more upmarket, but for our Brownies and Guides and their families Xmas function, we're having bbq hamburgers. All the ingredients will be set up on tressles and everybody will make their own burger. We have a few Dads who are cooking the meat patties on the bbq. There will be a few nice sauces plus a huge selection of bbq fillings, so nobody can turn around and say "I'm allergic (means they don't like it!!) to .........."
Dessert will be platters of fresh fruit eg strawberries, pineapple, etc.
So its easy to prepare for the small group of parents (can you guess I'm one of them) to prepare. We're using serviettes, so minimal dishes.
Its BYO drinks.
We're having this in about 2wks, so I can't tell you how successful it works out.
Linda.

the dinner we attended two years ago when my husband was after dinner speaker was quite formal. If memory serves me correctly we had grilled chicken breast on roasted mediterranian vegetables,(beautifully presented) hot bread rolls, followed by Choc Brownies, strawberries and cream for dessert. The Form 1s were dressed as waiters and waitresses.
But thank you for those suggestions, it gives me something to contribute at the meeting.
