I have just been wanting to try a Flatbread recipe which says uses a sachet of dried yeast which it says is 8gm. I only have a jar of Active dried yeast - does anyone know how many teaspoons/tablespoons that is equal to please?

Averil, if you get stuck in the future up above is cooks tools tab, which has a measurement converter.Here is a cut and paste of how any teaspoons to a gram

going by that 8 grams equals 1.68 teaspoons, maybe 1.5 heaped???

From Fleischmann's Yeast website:

"How much dry yeast is in 1/4 ounce envelope?
About 2 1/4 teaspoons. "

oooops Maths was never my forte, hahhaha.I am so sorry.... 1 gram is 1. 6 .. I give up!! because if you times 1.6 x 8 that's even more. Eh???????????/

In my Edmonds Cookery Book (1992) it gives the following conversions for yeasts:

Replace 1 tbsp of Edmonds Active yeast with 2 tbsp Edmonds Surebake
Replace 1 sachet of dried yeast with 1.5 tbsp Edmonds Active Yeast
Replace 1 oz (25g) of compressed yeast with 1.5 tbsp Edmonds Active Yeast.

So you can reverse the process. If you have dried yeast (a sachet) you should be able to work out how much you need if the recipe calls for Active or Surebake yeast.

I have just been today to a demo of bread making by Dean Brettscheidner.

He was using the Edmonds dried yeast that comes in 8g sachets - roughly 1 and 1/2 teaspoons.

He said it was okay to use the whole 8g packet of the Edmonds Instant dried yeast if you were using 450g to 600g of flour but he puts it with 500g flour. This product does not go in to liquid first like the granules have to.

It is a differtent product to the active granules.
