What pickle for Pumpkin and Pickle scones?

Hi
I have a recipe for these yummy pinwheel scones. It includes 1/4 cup of chopped pickle - I usually use chopped onion and ham/bacon in the filling instead as I don't really know what is meant by pickle.
Does it mean a nice green tomato pickle? chopped gherkins?
Does anyone know as I thought I'd like to make it per the recipe for a change.
Thanks
EmmaLee

The recipe I've got states chutney, but I don't suppose it matters what you use as long as it's to your taste.

Thanks Lorna
Do you find it's nice with a Tomato based chutney? It just seems strange to me.
Might try it with a Tomato chutney as our son's home this weekend and if we don't like them he'll eat anything!!!

I've made them with my own tomato relish which has a bit of a kick to it, and with Branston pickle. Both nice, but I do have a slice of cheese with it, and it's not a thin slice!
