After enjoying this dish in Samoa, I'm so pleased to find out, its the new food craze in NZ. Has anyone tried out any of the restaurants that have just opened serving Hawaiian/ Japanese dish POKE?

I'm very keen to try some poke bowls but I'll have to wait till April when I'm off to Hawaii for 12 days. I'd like to try it with fresh tuna but at $35kg, it's not going to happen till I get to Hawaii where the fish is a much better price.
I noticed in the second photo on the page you linked, Ingrid, that they are using Shichimi Togarashi, my all-time favourite red pepper seasoning that is useful in so many dishes. If you haven't tried it yet, and you like a little heat (or a big hit of heat) give it a go. It's available in most supermarkets in exactly the same little red bottle as in the picture. It's not much longer than the size of an average middle finger and can usually be found in the 'International' section of supermarkets. One of my favourite ways to use it is sprinkled very lightly on scrambled egg. Guess who will be inspecting all the supermarkets for new and different condiments!

Shichimi Togarashi - love this stuff, especially the slight orange peel tang.
I saw Rachel Hunter rave about poke on her beauty programme whilst in Hawaii. It sounds a great quick, easy and healthy thing to whip up at home. I especially love raw fish, fresh herbs and hot spices.
Interesting info from Wikipedia
Poke began with fishermen seasoning the cut-offs from their catch to serve as a snack.[3] Traditional poke seasonings have been heavily influenced by Japanese and other Asian cuisines. These include soy sauce, green onions, and sesame oil.
Others include furikake (mix of dried fish, sesame seeds, and dried seaweed), chopped dried or fresh chili pepper, limu (seaweed), sea salt, inamona (roasted crushed candlenut), fish eggs, wasabi, and Maui onions.
MMMMM sounds delicious and very healthy - hold the rice for me.
