Fresh fish delivered to your door for Aucklanders..........I saw the Freshcatch website at the bottom on an e-mail and out of curiosity clicked into it. I think it is a relatively new business started up in Auckland, but thought the (set price) Boxes of fish they sell were a good price and the fish go virtually straight from the boat to your door, guaranteed fresh and if you don't eat it all the first day will stay fresh for 3 days. You are asked to order on an on-going regular weekly or fortnightly basis and you can pause or cancel as set out in terms and conditions. Delivery cost is a standard $3 and I think this is built into the price. They say on their website -
"Our promise is ‘Fish made simple’ so we want to be able to sell seafood in a user-friendly way.
Most people don’t know how much a whole snapper weighs for instance – we have taken the guess work out of it and our prices are based on providing a generous portion of fish per person.
The minimum weight is 180 grams per person, and often you will receive more than this at no extra cost."

I don't buy fish because we catch our own from time to time and I don't like the taste of bought fish fillets, but I thought for anyone in Auckland buying fish on a regular basis this could be a convenient and cost effective way of shopping for a variety of fresh fish? (I'm not all that up to date with the price of fish I might add, so someone may correct me as to value for money).
Regards,
Dawn.
(I don't have any connections to the Freshcatch business).

We use hbseafoods.co.nz
I've had probably 50 deliveries, 1 I questioned they refunded immediately but I've yet to come across fresher fish and they have awesome variety. If you buy what's on special they deliver free.
Oceanz is also available in Auckland, but they are much more expensive and have less selections. Thier specials can be questionable, but they are handy.

I subscribed to Freshcatch earlier this year. I subscribed to their Variety Box which is $27.99 per fortnight plus $3 delivery. It's really easy to set up and you can cancel at any time. The delivery and packaging were impeccable and the instructions on how to store fish were brilliant and very useful. However, I was hugely disappointed when all that was in my box was some mussels and some arrow squid. I thought that was a ripoff for $27.99!! It was after business hours so I couldn't call them but I immediately cancelled the subscription and filled out their online feedback form. I got a phone call immediately (7pm on a Friday night) from the owner of the business who was hugely apologetic and said that there was an item missing from my box - a small whole snapper. He delivered it to my home the next morning along with a tray of sashimi-cut trevally as an apology. This was excellent service and very gratifying. Apparently they were planning on sending emails that advised you of what to expect but those weren't up and running yet (they onky started Nov 2016 I believe).
Anyway, I've only had the one delivery because I was then accepted into a degree course and will be a poor student so I kept my subscription cancelled. They followed up afterwards to see why, which was veyr good of them.
The squid was cleaned out and ready-to-cook except for the quills. The mussels were de-barnacled but not de-bearded, and the snapper was scaled and gutted. I couldn't fault the freshness and convenience. They also have one-off boxes that look really good. I would've loved to continue my subscription. I like the factor of having random items in the box so I get to try cooking different things. I think the value is pretty okay considering it's fresh seafood. They also plan on doing recipe cards/emails.
I've used HB Seafood but didn't find the stuff that fresh. Also, you sometimes have to buy a kg or more at a time to get the good pricing.

Great to get your feedback DK and good to know in general you were very happy with the freshness and convenience, but how disappointing that your first and only delivery was such a let-down due to an item missing from the Box. Good to know they were on the ball to remedy the situation for you. I guess they can be given benefit of the doubt, being a fledgling company, but it would not be good for business not to double-check that the items packed are correct before dispatch. Hopefully they will learn from their errors and formulate a re-check method so that it won't happen again. Satisfied customers are their best advertisement!
