Occasionally how I expect/imagine a restaurant dish is going to be based on its menu description turns out to be very different from the reality put in front of me, and sometime's the reality's a big disappointment.
If you read a menu description that said Fresh Seasonal Salad: Autumn Vegetables, what would you expect?

Well, for flavour, number 1 would have to be fennel. Also in season, among others, are parsnips, brussel sprouts, pumpkin, green beans and, of course, carrots. Lots of flavours and options for either a warm or cold salad. Any chef worth their salt would be able to produce something colourful and tasty out of just some of the few vegetables I have mentioned.

Based on what is in my vege garden at present I would expect any of these:
red capsicums
cauliflower
sage, tarragon, parsley, thyme
red onion
pumpkin
celeriac
broccolini
beetroot
raddichio
spinach
silver beet
And maybe some autumn fruit - feijoa, tamarillo, apple.
What did your salad consist of J1 ?

I thought the same as you and was expecting at least a bit of capsicum, parsnip, beetroot, carrot... It was a main lunch menu item.
I got a raw salad, 80% of it being curly-leafed lettuce, with a few fennel strands/sticks, a few carrot shavings, and a few extremely thin slices of radish.
Although I won't return to this place, next time I'll be asking what a salad consists of before I order it.

I too have had this where the dish was described as an eggplant and haloumi salad with a creamy dressing, well what i got was a huge plate of mesulum which i do not really like two blobs of eggplant puree with about 3 very small cubes of halloumi, the dressing was a smear on the plate... I complained, they couldn't understand what the problem was... the chef even came and checked out the table when i returned it, as i was told if i ate any i would be charged.

And that was supposed to be a main course? That's dreadful. Even as a side salad it would be disappointing given its description on the menu.

The fact that it said salad but description was autumn veg - I would expect vegetables and probably with the inclusion of squash or pumpkin. Broccoli, leek, sprouts - that type of thing.
I would have also complained. Its really disappointing when things dont live up to the description.
Yesterday I went to a restaurant owned by a VERY well known chef.
The kids meal ($15) was chicken noodles with Asian greens. I asked for them on the side and they were on the top of the noodles and the biggest issue was it was very small and my son ate all of it in about 2minutes! I ordered him something else but in hindsight should have gone for an adults main.
Two of us ordered laksa and it arrived tepid and my Mums wonton soup had chilli although we specifically asked about it as she has a rather scary allergy that makes it hard to breath!
Restaurants need to really work on exceeding the expectation - too many times Ive been disappointed.

We/I didnt make a fuss as it was a celebration day.
In hindsight I do wish I did say more at the time, I usually do (much to others horror) but I really believe we pay a decent amount for dinning out - its the restaurants job to get it right.
Im not one to write complaint reviews, Id rather do it in person.
Its going to irk me that I said nothing now...

Vanessa, you have an extremely valid complaint and what I would do is either email them or private message them via Facebook. Let them know the reasons why you didn't kick up a fuss on the day and that you don't want to broadcast it to all on sundry via a very public review - but that you just want to make them aware of this.
