Equal quantities of plain flour, soft breadcrumbs (from decent bread) and grated suet or chopped butter, combined well with a fork. Add 1 tsp baking powder and a pinch of salt per cup of mixture, mix well. With a knife, mix in enough cold water to make a soft sticky dough similar to scone dough.

This recipe has little herb scone type dumplings that go crunchy on the top and soft underneath.
