HUGE Prawns - too good to be true? April 06, 2018 10:25PM |

I purchased some HUGE prawns the other week from Pak n Save. I ate some and they tasted pretty good and froze the rest.
Im now defrosting them for dinner tonight but started to wonder are they actually caught and cared for ethically.
Everyone is a sucker for a bargain BUT it horrifies me that we never know the full deal. I did ask where they were from and it wasnt Australia or NZ, Somewhere in Asia I think, Icant remember.
Quite possibly my prawns have been treated with growth stimulants, antifungal agents, antibiotics and pesticides or equally terrible been caught up in slavery and murder.

I Know the only solution is to boycott buying them and not be a sucker for a cheap catch.

I bought some of the big Argentinian prawns from Pak 'n Save. We didn't like them much: they were reasonably fresh, and the flavour was okay, but the texture was soft and flabby and not what I look for in a prawn. I thought they were fairly expensive too, as they are mostly head and the tail part is only the size of a king prawn. I wouldn't buy them again.
