Ive jst done something really crazy and a bit mad but Ive placed a BET!!!!
Ive bet on myself that in 4 weeks I can lose 4%. (Just under 3kgs) If I win my bet I get my money back plus a cut of all the people that that lost theirs. Money is a great motivator as Im one who doesnt like paying for weightloss other than food.
I know it sounds crazy but you need to go with what motivates you.
The 5;2 diet - Reducing calories to the low amount needed on the fasting days is something I know I couldnt do "The average limit for women would be 500 calories" Thats not many calories at all. I would say on the other days you still need to be quite mindful of the amount you are consuming.
Its an interesting philosophy though and I like the concept of energy in energy out analogy.

Hi Ingrid, I was one of those members. I lost around 10kg and have kept it off since then. I still do periods on the diet - I like to have time off between stints not only because it's not easy but also so my body doesn't habituate too much to the fewer calories. Diet days aren't much fun but the other days are great. It's true you need to watch out for calories on the other days, but that turns out not to be a problem for me - my thinking goes that I worked so hard on the fast days that I'm careful about what I eat on the other days so it isn't all for nothing, but that feels very much like my choice and not something I'm forced to do. Despite the difficulties of fasting it's still by far the easiest and most sustainable diet I've ever done, and it seems fasting has health benefits too which is a bonus . I choose to eat nothing all day and then have a 500 calorie dinner, but others have three small meals a day - it just depends on your preference. Michael Mosley recently said that he thinks now you could eat 800 calories and it wouldn't make much difference - that would make it easier but I prefer to stick to 500 as I am hypothyroid and it's very difficult for me to lose weight. To be honest it's easier in the summer than the winter because you do tend to feel cold when fasting.

There has been some argument about what constitutes a fast-day. I have Michael Mosely's book and in it he says "I tried several different regimes and the one I settled on as the most sustainable for ME is a fast on two non-consecutive days each week, allowing 600 calories split between breakfast and dinner. On fast day I'll have breakfast at around 7.30am and then aim to have dinner at 7.30pm, with nothing in between."
However, there were those who interpreted this to mean he had breakfast on day one then nothing till dinner time on day 2. That makes 2 consecutive days of fasting lasting 36 hours. Far too long without food.
He does discuss other regime's but to me his method is sustainable. I like this website that has some very useful tips and recipes:

and this one, the official UK Fast Diet website: [thefastdiet.co.uk]

I know people who have had success with it - and go back to it when needed.
It also suits my sister who can go long period of time without eating successfully.
I could skip dinner but would struggle during the day. But if I skip dinner my husband does not like it in terms of family time etc

Huh, that's weird, I replied to this but it's disappeared. In short, you can do separated days or together, whichever you prefer. I do two together which although harder physically I find mentally easier as I know I have five blissful days before the next round. Other people though like the separated days as they always know that they will be eating the next day.

It worked well for me, I should really get back to it. It works really well with shift work, because you can eat a normal dinner, keep busy through a night shift, eat a 500 cal breakfast and then sleep until dinner time again. I drank heaps of water on my nights, and chewed gum, I also took a small snack of vege sticks or a piece of fruit in case I felt unwell during my shift, but never needed to use it because I'd had a good dinner before I went to work. I lost about 10kg before losing focus, just need to get my head back in the game.
