Leslyn and I thought we could come down and represent Foodlovers at Al Browns fishing tournament in August. If Foodlovers could sponsor us at the $3,000.00 night for 3 nights lodging fee, we would fish our little hearts out for you. Humbly yours, Greg and Leslyn. [www.hukalodge.co.nz]

Hi Greg, If you can't manage Al Brown's fishing tournament in August, how about coming to the Whitianga Scallop Festival in September. Not so much fishing done, but plenty of scallops cooked every way you can imagine (and a few you can't), plus celebrity chefs, good wine and a variety of music. Regards, Lorna

Helen we leave here end of April. Have a big roadie trip planned, and also last week I was the very lucky recipient of some wonderful USA hotel and sightseeing prizes at a travel industry trade function, which we can utilise on this trip. So will fly into LA to catch up with friends in Huntington Beach, CA then drive to Vegas (3 nights complimentary) with the main focus being the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam (neither of us are casino buffs), from there we drive to Denver and will stop on the way somewhere, but have 2 nights complimentary in Denver. From Denver we will meet up with Greg and Leslyn in Wyoming and are at their mercy until they get sick of us - but will see Yellowstone and their farm which will be great. When we leave them we will head to Oregon (complimentary Portland accommodation), drive down the coast to San Fran and stay there 3 nights before heading back to NZ. Away for close to six weeks.
From a food perspective, I have been watching Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown show on Netflix (love it actually) and happened to see the Vegas episode last night - and The Bootlegger Bistro and a Thai Restaurant called Lotus of Siam may be getting a visit from us

Thanks Stephanie. Interesting coincidence as today I had an email from the Tourism Vegas rep situated in Sydney, and she said to me if we can to dine at The Lotus of Siam, as it is the best Thai restaurant in the USA. Well normally I would think we have eaten in Thailand so ho hum BUT they serve Khao Soi noodles - and we can't get decent ones here in NZ, well in Hamilton anyway! You have to make reservations, and I am going to book us in just so we can indulge in our favourite Khao Soi Noodles.
a ps.. when we stayed with Lynette in Bangkok, we would dine at a hole in the wall restaurant down the road and George ate six bowls of Khao Soi noodles. Little but tall piggy!!

Irene, I've been to Lotus of Siam more than once! It's good, but I need to warn you that the US isn't as used to Thai food as we are and so what they think is absolutely amazing seems pretty standard to us. So I'd say it's good but not incredible Thai food. I'm not a gambler in the least either, but I do appreciate the fantastic restaurants in the casinos - the décor is often stunning as the fitouts cost millions. They're not particularly cheap, however. Out in the suburbs (like Lotus of Siam is) I also recommend Roku if you like authentic Japanese.
