best peanut butter October 14, 2004 10:32PM |
Just wondering what everyone's favourite peanut butter is??? I love peanut butter (so much that i eat it out of the jar with a spoon). I used to buy the best foods brand, but can't seem to get that anywhere anymore. The peanut butter in England was fabulous - much nicer than here, so when i got home i tried making my own, but it is a little bland. Anyone got a favourite???

My midwife told me I should be eating peanut butter every day whilst breastfeeding as it was so good for you and your milk!!! (this was nearly 7 years ago!!) We used to have a Bin Inn and they ground fresh peanut butter for you which I bought. I don't know if they still have those machines in bin Inns anymore??
I'm no great peanut butter eater I'm afraid Tammy, so can't help you, sorry. I give my kids Sanitarium Crunchy though and they seem to like it.

I'm a Kraft girl too. When I was a student I flatted for a year with two peanut butter nutters and we collectively trialled the different peanut butters available at our closest supermarket. We decided that Kraft was the best out of the cheaper brands - we found Sanitarium too dry.....but hey...each to their own!

Hi Tammy
I'm totally addicted to peanut butter and cant have it in the house. I'm surprised other people are as mad as me about the stuff. Yes I agree that Kraft is good, I've even tried purchasing lesser known brands so I wouldnt eat the stuff (and still have it for cooking) and have discovered that Basics is pretty good to.

Sorry but I don't like Kraft. Bought some and we are using on the mouse traps in the shed. the mice seem to love it.
I don't like it because its sweet, so therefore prefer any unsweetned one. Sanitarium would be my favourite, but basics or budget is good too.
My partner and his grandson like the smooth and I like crunchy. Just as well we're not all the same...... or there'd be no choice

Eta Crunchy gets my vote. But this reminds me of the time when the kids were little and I was into making as much as our food as I could. Which included peanut butter. When it came to testing it out on the kids they decided before they had tasted it that it was YUK simply because it was home-made and not from the supermarket. When no-one was looking I transferred it into a spare Eta Peanut Butter jar and next day put it on their sandwiches as normal and told them I had thrown the home-made peanut butter away. They were quite content to eat what they thought to be the bought version. Little did they know. Kids Eh!

I just bought a different brand the other day which the kids think is the absolute best and told me to get everytime from now on. It is called Greens and its made with roasted peanuts which is meant to be the reason for its nicer flavour. I haven't tried it myself so cant judge. Dont know if it is available in NZ though.

While breastfeeding my first baby I was eating peanut butter on wholegrain toast with banana a lot and drinking milk to boost my milk supply. My daughter had horrendous colic and I tried all sorts of things to help it but now, in hindsight, and after reading about it, I believe the peanut butter I was eating may have been the culprit!

Milk arrowroot biscuits with peanut butter, honey, dates, chopped hazlenuts and shaved chocolate is my absolute favourite snack!
Probably a thousand calories but we all have to spoil ourselves once in a while right!
Let me know if anyone has any other strange snacks.
ps. In Japan I tasted the best peanut butter: it was sweet, as opposed to the slightly salty version here. Top stuff

Kraft has added sugar AND salt. That's probably why kids love it.
I'm an addict and buy Pam's Crunchy. Beware of the "cheaper" Budget - the jar is much smaller!
I love it on wine biscuits (there's the sugar appeal again) so can identify with Maree and her Milk Arrowroot biscuits - and often eat it straight from the jar.
Remember when all peanut butter brands had oil which floated to the top? I wonder how they solved that one - must be the Emulsifier 471.
