I have never actually seen a shortbread stamp, except for a photograph I have of a very old wooden shortbread mould in the shape of a Scottish thistle. I thought they were antiques. The article says the mould should be well oiled and the shortbread dough pressed in then rolled with a rolling pin to make a smooth back. Then tip out the dough and bake as usual. How would the stamp work that you use? From its name, it makes me think you impress it on the top of the ready rolled dough to form a picture/pattern, and for this there are numerous items that could be used, specially if you look in the toy departments for playdough moulds and cutters, etc. What immediatly springs to mind is my potato masher that has little squares, or the one I used to have that had wavy lines. I have a cut-glass flower vase with a lovely snow-flake pattern on the bottom that would make a great pattern. Look around the home in the most unlikely places for things that could be used.

I have just dontated a shortbread stamp to Mt Eden op shop. It maybe still there. It was a ceramic (?) tray with all different patterns within it and you pressed the short bread into it and cooked on it. As usual used it when I first got it and then haven't for years. Didn't really like the taste of the actual recipe required to get the imprint. Prefer my Grandmother's! I have both wooden and ceramic stamps which you can get around Christmas, as usually Kitchen shops pack up their Christmas stock between seasons.
