I'd say if there's a fair amount of sugar in it, you're likely to make one big mess if you try and put the jars in the microwave. I have, in the past, reboiled plum jam that a friend made and had not set properly. You'd have to re-wash and steralise the jars, though, as if you were making a new batch.

You can buy a pectin setting agent at the supermarket. It is in a powder form. I would put it all into a pan and re boil it. Just a hint, when making marmalade, don't make it too late in the season as the pectin in the fruit is reduced. The end of August is best. Hope you have luck at the setting of your marmalade.

I would re-boil it. I make alot of marmalade and it's happened to me - sometimes. I would imagine it is the intial boiling, beofre the sugar is added, that hasn't been done properly. And it wouldn't hurt to try a setting agent though in situations such as this I only use about 1/4 of what the directions say.
