Someone has a great imagination. Pity there's not more green in it, though. Thank you, Dawn, for reminding me to look. I wonder if Google be decorated for ANZAC day??

I love Google's 'first day of fall' which is on at the moment. I'm not holding my breath in expectation of seeing an ANZAC display though Lorna!

I'm a little bit puzzled why they used 'fall09' when all my Northern Hemisphere friends are heaving a sigh of relief that it's their Spring.

Thanks for posting about the new google header. I am often in there, but sometimes they disappear very quickly.

I'm a bit puzzled about where you see Fall 09 and first day of fall. I can only see Google depicted as various fruits with a hole in them, eaten by a caterpillar crawling across the tops of the fruits.

Lorna, if you hover your mouse over the Google depiction it will tell you what it symbolises. Funnily enough though, when I did that this morning it read 'first day of fall'. When I do it now it reads 'First day of Autumn - design by Eric Carle'. So maybe Google NZ changed it to meet our NZ terminology?

So it does, thank you, Dawn. Aren't they 3 weeks late? Didn't our official autumn start on March 1st? Or do we work from 20th to 21st monthly? Maybe because the longest and shortest days are on 21st December & July, the seasons change at that time of month, too. Who cares, I'm enjoying this Indian Summer we're having. Glorious weather!

If you type in www.google.co.uk, it reads "first day of spring"! That could explain the strawberry...

Eric Carle is the author of the favourite childrens' picture book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", from which this masthead is derived. Your grandchildren and young children would probably recognise it instantly.

Thank you Irene, That is the item that was in the news last night: thought to be part of the 'missing link' between man and ape. Apparently it was found 20 years ago in Germany but has been kept hidden in someone's cupboard. No explanation of why it's suddenly come to light. If you click on the Google picture it takes you to several links about the news item.

I missed that one on Google NZ, Dawn, so went to Google.ca to have a look. Is it the same one? The woman with a child on her lap, dangling her feet in a bowl of water? I'll have to Google Mary Cassatt to see who she was, but Happy Birthday to her, anyway!! (Same one on Google UK)

Yes Lorna that's the one - I haven't googled Mary Cassatt yet either - perhaps we should have a guessing game as to what she is or was well known for huh?

I sort of cheated...well...call it research. What interesting art Mary Cassett produced.

Yes, I've cheated now too! From Wikipedia - Mary Cassatt often created images of the social and private lives of women, with particular emphasis on the intimate bonds between mothers and children.

Google is looking a bit like it did at our place this morning, except that our's was white from frost rather than snow! In fact, its been some years since we've had so many frosts as this winter.

Yea!!! the 4th is also our 45th wedding anniversary. Hubby says stars & stripes for some but ball & chain for others. Well haven't I done well to keep him in ball & chains for all these years. Wouldn't want it any other way just quietly.
