We had a horrendous experience this week when my husband had an 11.30am appointment at a clinic at Waikato Hospital. There was NO parking anywhere, we got stuck in the Hague Road carpark queue and coudn't escape without driving nearly all the way up, ended up with me having to drop him off very late for his appointment, get out of the carpark without a validated ticket, then with no knowledge of Hamilton find somewhere to go where the car and I could spend an hour or so until he could be collected. There seemed to be no option but to turn left and end up on Cobham Drive. I eventually found a city parking building (Centreplace?) then had to find my way back. I have very little sense of direction and Google Maps seems to have a blind spot when it comes to the hospital and in the past has persistently sent us to the staff car park in Selwyn St.
My cry for help is this: if I drop him off at the main entrance is there somewhere I can drive to easily where I can park for an hour or so, and preferably with a public toilet. Does Hamilton Lake have areas that would suit? Or is there a shuttle service that we could use? We drive there from Matamata.

You poor thing. I park across the road in the carpark building in Pembroke Street or use the Hague Road Carpark - but that is definitely busier, and I encountered a problem last time for the first time ever.
If you drop hubby off in Pembroke Street, you can drive down to the lake, and there are public toilets there as well as a cafe driving into the Lake from Pembroke Street entrance. Or alternatively from Pembroke Street return to Ohaupo Road, and turn right into Kahikatea and Cafe Fresca is on the corner of Kahikatea and Alison Street. Hamilton Gardens are just that bit further away but are another option to consider?
Not sure of shuttles between Matamata and Hamilton sorry

I just quickly googled shuttles, and there is a specific health shuttle from Matamata to Waikato Hospital!

Thanks! I vaguely remember reading about the shuttle when we first moved here but put it out of my mind as being for very old or very ill people only. I'll run the idea past my husband (who might be horrified).
The nurse at the clinic said that the parking situation there gets worse and worse and they regularly see patients who are very very late and very very stressed . It must be bad for overall health, and also hard on the staff who have to deal with upset patients.

I can't help with where else to park, but I totally agree about the woefully inadequate parking at Waikato Hospital. Unless they have built a new parking building since I was there last. I couldn't help but notice that it seemed it was built for the days before the much larger vehicles were around. On the ramps between each floo,r if a larger vehicle was on them, there wasn't much room for another vehicle at the same time.
To add insult to injury, we found our vehicle had been damaged when we returned. Not enough for an insurance claim but enough that the very discourteous driver could not help but be aware they had done some damage.

Marnie, when we were endlessly circling the carpark there was at least one enormous ute on every floor and negotiating the very narrow passages was awful.
Irene - I am forever in your debt! He is keen on the shuttle and has made arrangements to use it for the next appointments. It's a huge weight off my shoulders. Thank you.
