Wine and Diet
November 02, 2004 03:56AM
I competely changed my diet at the beginning of the year due to diabetes and lost quite a bit of weight as a result (down a dress size!!) However my husband eats the same food as me and has put on weight. The difference is he drinks 1-2 glasses of red wine a night whereas I dont drink at all.
He is mystified and I state its the wine that is putting the weight on. Does anyone know if this is true or a web site that relates alcohol to weight gain.

Can't help with specifics, but it is a well known fact that alcohol is high in calories which would contribute to weight gain.sad smiley

I know someone who had considerable weight loss after giving up drinking . They did not change their diet other than cutting out alcohol. I think you tend to eat more when drinking too.

I think I read in this weeks Womans Day that a glass of alcohol per day leads to a 1kg weight gain per year I think, or an inability to lose 1kg. I can't remember the exact figures, but it was something like that.
But then I think if you cut out all of life's pleasures, life can be pretty dull. I still have a Gin with diet tonic everynight, and have been losing weight.

I'm like you Irene, Am losing weight but still enjoy the odd tipple or 3. I know the weeks that I have had more alcohol, my weight does increase but I think its something to do with the food intake with the alcohol also.
equation = good food + good wine = weight gain.

Just work harder at the gym and it comes off again. Life is to be enjoyed.

Sounds like a good way to lose weight, but no thanks, I would have to buy new clothes. We do enjoy our wine before a meal. We have to have some vices in this world good or bad

Lets pretend that hubby is having a better lunch than you as you probably won't see what he is putting in his mouth if he is at work. Can't possibly be the wine then eh!!! Who am I trying to kid as I try to lose a bit & still have a wine at night occasionally

I have it on very good authority that taking your clothes on holiday makes them shrink.

I am beginning to suspect that hubby is sneaking out for good lunches without me knowing or at least not confessing to me.
