Re: Aioli in less than 60 seconds - 3 years ago
Yes, full cream cow's milk. Chelsea's recipe uses creamy soy milk. I did't have it so I used cow's milk instead. Aqua faba sounds interesting, worth a try. Marieby mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Aioli in less than 60 seconds - 3 years ago
Chelsea Winter has a recipe on her site for an even easier aioli, if that's possible. No eggs, she uses non dairy milk. I tried it with creamy dairy milk and it was delicious. Marieby mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk

It's also a a really interesting series on Netflix. Marieby mariee - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Small dishwasher - 5 years ago
Noel Leeming have a Trieste freestanding 45 cm dishwasher. I've had one for years, I run it every day. Sorry, not sure how to do a link, but if you search on their website for 45 cm dishwashers you'll find it. I think Trieste is an offshoot of Indesit. Marieby mariee - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: freezing pate - 5 years ago
I froze some over the Christmas period and it seemed to be fine, though it was a slightly chunky pate to start with.by mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Home made vanilla essence - 5 years ago
I filled a small glass bottle (sauce, I think), with vodka, and every time I use a vanilla pod I pop it into the bottle. I rinse it off if necessary and I don't worry about the seeds. I use what I need then top it up with more vodka. So far it's lasted about 10 years! Marieby mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk

There's been a note added in the comments on that article - it should be 1/8 of a teaspby mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: What plant is this? - 5 years ago
There's an app called PlantSnap. You take a photo of the plant and the app identifies it. I think if you want to keep the picture you have to pay but I've found it useful as I'm not too bothered about keeping the details.by mariee - Garden Lovers Forum

spam on these forums - 5 years ago
Is there any way to block contributors like Elaine95 who seem intent on spamming these message boards with long messages full of meaningless rubbish? I've noticed recently that the movement on the Foodlovers forums has dropped off and I wondered if people were being put off by these types of messages. Marieby mariee - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Cannonball Cabbage - 5 years ago
I grew Little Cuties last year. I cut them when they were about 15 cm across and fully hearted. Ideal for one. I left one of the stalks in and later got 3 more wee cabbages, as sweet as their mums!by mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk

Couldn't find the right solution from the internet? Have you tried Google? There are dozens of sites telling you how to care for one.by mariee - Garden Lovers Forum
Re: Varieties of scones - 5 years ago
I have a friend in Scotland who is a great scone baker. Recently she was asked to make a batch for some wind farm workers. Black pudding and apple. Apparently they went down really well. Marieby mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk

I never really like pumpkin soup until I tries Annabel Langbein's Thai pumpkin soup. It's absolutely delicious.by mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Opt Out from receiving Yellow Pages/White Pages - 6 years ago
Paper Yellow/White pages are useful if you're not exactly sure a name is spelled, it's easy to find a name you're not sure of by searching near the word you think it could be. The internet version, in my experience, requires the exact spelling or you don't get a result.by mariee - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Gluten free - 6 years ago
My niece's 4 y/o daughter has just been diagnosed as celiac. Her mum has found a site called gfme.co.nz which has lots of recipes and I believe they also have classes. This site also lists a lot of gf foods available in NZ: As there are 2 other children in the family, everything the little girl can eat has been stickered with a gold star. They also have a separate toaster, bread board, kniby mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk

I'm loving Tyrant at the moment. There's some violence but what you might expect from a Middle Eastern dictatorship.by mariee - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Phone companies - 6 years ago
I mainly use my mobile but I've kept a landline for a couple of people who don't have mobiles. It also works out cheaper to phone local numbers from the landline, for example when calling a company. There are establishments like WINZ and IRD who have such a long holding time that it chews through the power on your mobile.by mariee - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Parsnip and Burnt marshmallow 'skin,' with a cured egg yolk? - 6 years ago
I thought it was completely over the top, looked as if its creator had thrown everything at it to try and make it interesting. The part I thought was particularly strange was using a scoby as one of the elements. The ones I've seen have been like leather.by mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Sugar content in Tonic water - 7 years ago
It was annoying to find it had any sugar at all! From now on I'll just squeeze a lemon into a glass of fizzy waterby mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Sugar content in Tonic water - 7 years ago
Today I bought soda water with a twist of lemon, thinking it would be a nice refreshing drink. 12.5 grams of sugar per serving! It tastes quite sweet. I changed from tonic water when, like IngridO, I realised how much sugar that contains. Shows how closely you have to examine labels and that you should wear your glasses to the supermarket. Re: You know its summer when.... - 7 years ago
Like Irene, I thought there were no tuis in Hamilton either, but I've seen quite a few over the last couple of years when walking by the river, often up past the footbridge or a bit north of Fairfield Bridge. My sister and brother in law have just bought a house on a gully, and they swear they were hearing tuis when they first moved in, so hopefully the conservation group is having some succesby mariee - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: KOMBUCHA - 7 years ago
I made it with very limited success a couple of years ago. At the time I'd never tried it so I had no idea what it should taste like. I had a couple of small bottles then the scoby turned up its toes and died! I do think I'll try it again sometime but I'm not sure what I'd do differently.by mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: SMOKED TROUT - 7 years ago
Yum! I often make a pate - blitz it up with lemon juice, cream cheese and horseradish sauce. Lovely on toast. Sorry, I can't give you quantities - I go by taste and texture. Marieby mariee - Foodlovers Food Talk
