Re: Can schools refuse to issue a receipt? - 12 years ago
At our kids schools (Y10 and 12), the school prefers you pay by internet banking. Was this an option for you? I find its great, cos there is a paper trail, and also means kids aren't carrying around cash, and the chance of them losing it etc. We get receipts emailed. The only thing is the school insists that you do a decent reference, so they can allocate to the correct part of their budgetby Linda - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Ham glazes - 12 years ago
I usually do pinapple juice (leftover from the can, which I've stuck the pineapple rings onto the ham), mixed with grainy mustard. And baste it frequently. Very simple, but tasty.by Linda - Foodlovers Food Talk

Avocado cake recipe - 12 years ago
Have some avos, which I thought I'd use and searching for some recipes. Came across this one, but it has the measurements in mls. Anybody got any idea, should be grams and what that is in cups? Or better still, anybody got an avo cake recipe, tried and proven. •560 ml cake flour •2ml bicarbonate of soda •15ml baking powder •2ml salt •3ml mixed spice •60g butterby Linda - Foodlovers Food Talk

Don't worry too much about the corned beef one. I reckon there is a huge inconsistancy in the quality of corned beef. I've done it in the crockpot, exactly the same way forever. And the last couple (which were supermarket purchases) were tough. But when I went to the butcher, it was lovely and tender. Surely, if your crockpot is a lower wattage, the corned beef should be more tender, cosby Linda - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: I need a new Vacuum cleaner - 12 years ago
I second the Miele. We've had one for just over a year, when our Dyson died. Its much better than the Dyson, which was supposedly the best, when it was purchased. We also have wooden floors in the living area, carpet and cats, plus messy kids. My only critism, is the cord isn't particularly long, but I just have a short extension cord for it.by Linda - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Organising Recipes - 12 years ago
I have a couple of clear files too. Recipes are roughly divided into groups, eg cakes, veges, meat etc. But then I'd run out of room in one section, and all the overflow are just sitting at the front of the file.by Linda - Foodlovers Food Talk
Xmas cake using wine - 13 years ago
A few years ago, I made a really nice Xmas cake, which I thought was from this site. It had the fruit, and some white wine which was put into a large saucepan or frypan, instead of the usual soaking overnight in brandy or similar. I've tried a search, but can't find it. Hoping somebody here knows this recipe, and could share it please. I remember it looked very nice when cut up, as the fruiby Linda - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Christmas dessert recipes - gluten free - 14 years ago
I've got a nice recipe for a fruit jelly, which the original recipe uses a bottle of sparkling wine. However, its been made using appletiser instead, but was a bit sweeter. I guess you could substitute any fruit juice for the liquid, and just cut down on the sugar.by Linda - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: School Photos - 14 years ago
Our kids have used Photolife which do a laminated photo with names. They also will do an insert, if there is somebody away, as long as they email them the details. Last year our school used another crowd, and it was terrible. Wrong names, mispelt names etc, so they've gone back to Photolife.by Linda - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: foodlovers commercial mail outs - 14 years ago
I haven't been here for a while, and getting this email prompted me to come in and check it out again. Anyway, I was surprised to get the Robobank one, but as our financial circumstances will soon change (DH gets made redundant next week, and we have had to set up a business, purchase van, equipment etc), I clicked on it. I'm certainly not complaining about the $75 which they will deposit inby Linda - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Marshmallow flop - 14 years ago
Could you melt it all again, and then pour onto a shortcake base, and have marshmellow shortcake. Or maybe onto some crushed biscuits and make into a cheesecake style of dessert. Seems a waste to bin it.by Linda - Foodlovers Food Talk
Freezing chopped onions - 14 years ago
A while ago, I found some free flow frozen chopped onions, so bought some. When I got them home, read the back and it said made in China. I did use them all up, and found them very handy, but didn't like the idea of them being made in China, so thought I'd create my own. Except they just froze into a big blob. Anybody know how to do this, to make them either free flow, or should I jusby Linda - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: house minders - 14 years ago
The people I've know who have done it, haven't received payment. Although if the house owner is going overseas, would often bring them back a small thank you gift. Years ago, when I was in my early 20's, before getting married, a girl friend and I would housesit for friends of friends etc. Cos we both normally lived at home with our respective parents, we enjoyed the freedom of cooking for ourby Linda - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: What to put in a Goodie Bag for Grandies - 15 years ago
Bubbles. OUr kids used to love bubbles. How old are the grandies? Sometimes balloons can be good too, but the younger ones sometimes get upset when they burst or are scared of the noise of when they pop. So if they're younger, it may not be appropriate. Instead of lollies, you could do mandarins, or a small bunch of grapes. Kids seem to like the smaller versions of fruits. You can alsoby Linda - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Rotorua - 15 years ago
How many of you will be going? There was a group of 12, who went to Lake Tarawera for Akl Anniversary w/e. We stayed in a lovely holiday house, which my sister had booked. It was something like $200 per night, but divided by so many of us, worked out very reasonable and actually cheaper than the camping ground at Blue Lakes. We've also stayed at the Top 10 at Blue Lakes that Zeetra has spokby Linda - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Other uses for condensed Milk - 15 years ago
I actually prefer to use it frozen, cos it goes stiff and I find it easier to spoon out etc. I often have some in the freezer, but now the kids have discovered how good a spoonful straight from the freezer, tastes!! Linda.by Linda - Foodlovers Food Talk
