I will whisper this but I have used the frozen sheets older than that. When thawed it is easier to see, feel and smell if it is still good to go.by Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Not My Day Today - 12 days ago
Some days I wonder why I even got out of bed. I do know that whatever I do I can never possibly make certain recipes and have them turn out like my mother.made. I guess the flour is different to how it used to be, or maybe just because when I was growing up she used a coal range. How did she guage the right temperature? I would see her open the oven door and just put her hand in momentariaby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Cherry Tomato Glut - 6 weeks ago
It doesn't sound boring at all, Irene. It's mostly too hot and humid to be standing too long at the moment. I could eat it and enjoy without it being a side dish. Thanks for posting.by Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk

I'm a bit like Stephanie39, I know I shouldn't laugh but....and there is no way would I be booking them into a hotel even if I could afford it. I am diabeticT2 but I don't make a big thing of it and eat around any dietary problems. Do so many people belong to the "It's All About Me" club? Re: Portable food to share - 3 months ago
Ali, in the recipe section Helen has a recipe for Blighs Cheese Biscuits. I make these often, so easy to make and even easier to eat. My friend makes them as well and uses potato crisps instead of rice bubbles. Packed in a light weight container lined with paper towels or similar. If you wish you could sprinkle a little paprika on top. As I seldom have tasty cheese in my fridge these dayby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Crevice Brushes - 4 months ago
That sounds great Chris. I have never purchased anything from Temu, I often see their ads (you can't really miss them) and think I will look for something similar here but it seems that it is not always the case.by Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Crevice Brushes - 4 months ago
Hello Chris I have and use interdental brushes, great for helping with tooth hygiene. They come in various sizes, I use size 3 and buy them from the pharmacy. There are times when I use them in other areas with small grooves. When I googled crevice brushes they look different I will be interested to hear how successful they are.by Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: vegan christmas - 4 months ago
jal...Good on you for providing special vegan dishes for your guests. Should that happen to me my thought would be to approach your guest/s and ask for ideas from them as well as doing your research. Jamie Oliver has a selection of vegan dishes that could give you some inspiration. A lovely post with a happy ending. Harry seems to have a nature like the other Harry who blotted his copybook or "Harry The Dirty Dog".by Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: The cost of things - 5 months ago
I don't think it is only in your area, Chris and it doesn't only apply to commodities such as brooms and brushes. I know we all hoped that things would be "back to normal" following the pandemic it seems we may have to wait a bit longer. I do remember wanting to buy a camisole to match an item of clothing only to find, like Henry Ford's statement about having any colour we liked as loby Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Tried ChatGPT? - 6 months ago
Thanks Irene...years ago I used to be able to buy apricot nectar here...then I just started pureeing canned apricots instead. Some of the "old timer" recipes still taste as good as they did then. I think I prefer canned apricots to the nectar. A long time ago I came across a site where you typed in ingredients and up would come suggestions. Re: Tried ChatGPT? - 6 months ago
Thanks Irene, I know this is a bit off on a tangent for me from ChatGPT? but the recipe you posted sounds so simple and delicious. In November our son is coming over from Brisbane for a few days and bringing their twin sons (last year of high school) aged 18..they have hollow legs and equally hollow stomachs. It sounds ideal. Re: Whole Smoked Chickens - Can't buy them now? - 6 months ago
I agree with Dawn's comments. Even when the whole smoked chickens were available in our nearest supermarket I always opted to buy the whole one rather than the smoked breast. I am wondering if you have access to a small fish smoker and could smoke your own.by Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Kleenex Tissues - 8 months ago
Chris, this is probably not much help regarding the tissues you mentioned. I use all different types of tissues, although my preference is for Sorbent. The first thing that jumped into my mind though is that almost everything seems to be thinner, lesser and smaller than they were before. The only thing that seems larger is the cost. It's my wallet that is getting smaller. It does often takeby Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Plastic Bags - 8 months ago
Chris, a while ago I stopped using plastic bags for most of my fruit and vegetables in the fridge and I have a couple of linings, a rigid, green tough plastic or plastic/like I bought and lined the fruit and vege areas. They seem to work well keeping things fresh. Unfortunately, I cannot remember where I got them or even if they are now in the banned list of various plastic things. Re: How to stop Milo/hot chocolate forming a rock hard block - 9 months ago
A bit late, maybe, but just endorsing what Lorna said about the dry spoon. Although I am always sure that I use a dry one, I am not infallible and the slightest bit of dampness around could be the culprit.by Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Victor Borge - 9 months ago
I have to confess that I remember Victor Borge. So talented and I can just imagine him punctuating your sister to her seat. I also remember Shelley Berman. Once one of my classmates was heading home from Dunedin for the university holidays. He told his mother that he would be stopping off at Christchurch to see Shelley Berman. His mother was very interested she thought it was a girlfriendby Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Good news topic - 9 months ago
Great topic, thanks Heather and others. I became a lemonade (yes, I use diet lemonade) and cream (can't seem to find any diet cream though!) fan, when I read a little piece about how a person at Waiheke Island used to buy scone mix. Went into the store and they were out of the mix. Kindly person in the store told them about the "secret ingredients" and they never looked back. Everby Marnie - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: What has happened to our forum? - 9 months ago
Ali, you have always been a delight with you cheery and knowledgable postings, with or without cooking involved. So have others who make me think or will share a much needed laugh. Sadly it doesn't appear to be online only. Various groups have dwindled in numbers. Re: Great British Bakeoff - Mexican Week - 9 months ago
I watched it. I wasn't offended by the addition of something that was just a little bit of fun. I did notice the woman who didn't seem to enter into the spirit of what the others were trying their best to do their understanding of Mexican. However, I did smile at the judges eating tacos after tacos. It doesn't take much to cause some people to become offended.by Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk

I was also wondering if it was my PC, not the American style of dates but that there didn't seem to be regular posts. For me, I just didn't have anything to post but liked to read through any. I still feel we are living in topsy turvy land. No I don't think I need a psychologist but I could do without psycho babble from the media many times. Re: Choice at the supermarket - 11 months ago
New World is our closest supermarket and I am noticing more and more a lack of certain brands and items that I would buy not so long ago. With the canned and frozen vegetables, I assumed they are stocking what they can get to take place of what isn't available in NZ. Sometimes I think it is the product, such as chefade, which seems to have disappeared. It's not something I buy often so itby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Colonial goose - 11 months ago
karena, your Aunt Daisy book is a lot older than mine. My edition says 2009, edited by Barbara Basham...a daughter, I think. Looking through it indicates to me of how much we have changed, or have we? I saw a recipe in there for Faggot Loaves. There is an excellent butcher, Doug Jarvis, who has stores in my region and I noted last time I was there he had faggots. He is English and he haby Marnie - Foodlovers Food Talk
