Re: microwave egg cooker - 4 years ago
I wanted the eggs to be hard boiled, so I put 4 eggs (whole) and set the timer on 8 for 4 mins. My sharp micro., is 1300 w. The eggs worked out pretty good, although 2 were slightly cracked. Thanks for your answers.by des - Foodlovers Food Talk
microwave egg cooker - 4 years ago
Hi, I have a 4 egg microwave boiler/cooker, but the instructions are a bit vague. They use a 600 watt example. Mine is 1300 watt. Would someone let me know roughly how long to hard boil 4 eggs? Thanks desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
apples - 4 years ago
Hi, I'm down to the last of the apples, after 4 buckets, and I decided to do them with the skin on. They were the worst looking small apples with blotches on the skin. I cored them and cleaned up the skin blemishes and put them through the blender. I am cooking them now but not sure what to add other than some sugar.and a tspn mixed spice. I've frozen apples for years but never started with the aby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: sour cream - 5 years ago
Thanks, Dawn and Marnie. I decided to whip it up and fold it in. It tastes great but I oiled the side of the round tin and when I hardened the base it all slid down the sides. I made it anyway, but it sunk and is a bit wobbly. Be okay for pudding. desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
sour cream - 5 years ago
Hi, I'm making a white cheesecake and it has sour cream. I have put two teaspoons of lemon juice in 500 ml and given it a good stir. Does it have to be whipped or use it as thick cream? Thanks anyone. desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
lemons - 6 years ago
Hi, Has anyone in the Franklin area got any spare lemons? My tree has finally given up the ghost after 30 years of great service. I've used up all the neighbors. I squeeze one a day hopefully for my health. Thanks desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: almonds substitute - 6 years ago
Thanks Jenna, I hadn't really thought about it although it's obvious to me now. I like the idea of making cakes in the 8 hole mini-loaf pan and that was only the second recipe I've come across. The other one which is really good is the date and pineapple mini loaf from the 16th avenue cafe, Tauranga sent in by Margaret Treneary. Maybe I'll read the recipe properly next time. I wouldn't bank on iby des - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Easy Apple Cake - 6 years ago
Has anyone got a recipe for apple cake or muffins using apple sauce instead of chopped apple? I have lots of home made apple sauce and slightly cinnamon flavoured. As most recipes call for chopped apple, I need a weight measurement. thanks desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: what's eating my silver beet? - 7 years ago
Thanks Well, l I do have a lazy cat that wanders around. I have 3 areas of sb well apart from each other and all have been eaten.I'm pretty sure it's not birds as the leaves are not torn, only separate holes in all leaves.. desby des - Garden Lovers Forum
what's eating my silver beet? - 7 years ago
Hi, I'v been growing silver beet forever and never had any problems other than snails occasionally. Suddenly this year it's been really savaged by something. Not snails or slugs and I have checked at night and nothing. Also no whiteflies. I've had slugem down and sprayed with an insect spray also I have stripped all the eaten leaves but the new ones are still being eaten. The leaves are not eatenby des - Garden Lovers Forum
Re: Eggs - 7 years ago
HI, when I want a hard boiled egg shelled, I read where you empty the pot once water is cold, then shake the cooled egg in the pot backwards and forwards for a few seconds. Most times the egg will lose the shell. I find that it's the absolute best way.I always used to use the flowing tap water to do it, desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: older topics - 8 years ago
J1, I typed in 'cheesecakes' in the advanced search, and two of the latest posts was/were the only result. I froze three different types including one cooked and they all got polished off. Thanks everyone, desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: older topics - 8 years ago
Thanks again Lorna, As it happens, I have made that one and frozen it and have just now untinned it and covered it and put it back in the freezer. I did a cooked one and did the same. I need to do another four. Think I'll do the uncooked one. I tried using baking paper but couldn't manage to get the base mix up the sides. thanks again, desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: older topics - 8 years ago
Thanks Lorna, I wanted to check freezing cheesecakes both uncooked and cooked. I have to make six for a wedding but only have two right size tins and wondered if I could freeze especially the uncooked ones, so as to reuse the tins. desby des - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Where to dig for shellfish? - 8 years ago
Hi, I think that people may be loathe to give that info on a open forum because of too many people arriving and taking more than the legal quota, 50 pipis per gatherer was last I remember. We used to get them at Orewa, although they weren't, thick. Good luck.by des - Foodlovers Food Talk
