Re: The difference between your expectation/imagination and reality of a restaurant menu item - 6 years ago
I too have had this where the dish was described as an eggplant and haloumi salad with a creamy dressing, well what i got was a huge plate of mesulum which i do not really like two blobs of eggplant puree with about 3 very small cubes of halloumi, the dressing was a smear on the plate... I complained, they couldn't understand what the problem was... the chef even came and checked out the tableby Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Take them homemade food - 6 years ago
I make the Ruth pretty ginger loaf, this keeps for a week in a container and is great with just a smear of butter. It is a good one to have on hand and can be frozen should it need to be. A batch of frozen pikelets for the young child ,easy to defrost for a quick snack. This sort of chicken pie is really tasty and may be something a 2.5yr old may eat. Just needs a serve of veggies. Re: 3 Questions to ponder - 7 years ago
An i dian curry, just not the same at home. Current favourite methi mali paneer... There was a restaurant that would do amazing veggie risotto, or pasta, that was to die for locally, sadly changed hands and have never really foud one that really is amazing. Where do I start!! My veggie mousaka, is pretty good, not that that is on any menus, I have tweaked a really good roast veggie lasagne tby Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Allergies - 7 years ago
Kone what would be your fav meals? I find all my friends are in awe of meat free meals I make... probably as most people don't always make the vegetables the star of the meal.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Allergies - 7 years ago
Curries indi×n are probably easy to make gluten dairy and nut free. Stir fries again probably easy to negotiate re allergies. Re snacks just keep a bowl of fruit available apples pears plums etc, should the need for a snack arise, or keep Not cold weather but soups are another easy thing to whip up and are very adaptable. Bbq you could do kebabs skewer style and marinade veggies meat or tofu...by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Foods you probably are refrigerating, but shouldn't - 7 years ago
I never keep tomatoes or eggs in the fridge, re onions I keep red in the fridge but not white. I do keep a tin of reduced cream in the fridge if I want to make the good old kiwi dip quickly. Also apples are kept in the fridge as family likes them cold and crisp.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Favourite Dressings - 7 years ago
Not sure if classed as a true dressing but having eaten out and about a lot lately, whipped goats cheese has been on the menus quite a bit and is very nice!by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Vegan recipes - 7 years ago
Wow Kone, They probably should have offered to bring a dish.... who would ever think of eliminating so many veggies from a vegan diet!by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Vegan recipes - 7 years ago
Asian dishes lend themselves well to vegan diets, even thai curries, as they use coconut milk, just ensure if using ready made pastes they don't include fish/shrimp paste. You could do fresh summer rolls to start and a mango sorbet and tropical fruit for dessert.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Frozen food section - 7 years ago
I buy the leannes veggie ones, and steam them, then lightly pan fry them. I take a few to work with the Endemane beans and a dipping sauce.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Burger patties - 7 years ago
This is a recipe taken from BHG, apparently really good He fried off garlic and onions. Then cut up steak into small pieces and added mince ( 1 part steak to 2 parts of mince ) then he added 2 tsp of celery salt and some cut up sage. Mixed it altogether and wrapped it in film as a log and chilled for 1/2 hour then sliced into patties and cooked it.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Ideas for a savoury school shared lunch - 7 years ago
Samosas, onion bahjis, shore mariner do a good frozen selection in the supermarkets. Do a dip with chopped cucumber ,carrots ,and celery for scoops and or nacho chips. Meatballs on sticks breakfast sausages with good old tom sauce.. ham cheese and pineapple sticks....by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Food Fads - 7 years ago
The poor child, if there is no basis for the extreme diet it is almost bordering on cruelty. I am vegetarian and I cook, but looking at thoses restrictions, you do have to wonder what he actually does eat. It looks to me if it would be a chore to feed anyone with that level of restricted diet...again if these were medical reasons, we all would be very sympathetic to his needs, but a choice! Is riby Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Crispy potatoes - 7 years ago
Pretty much the same here too. Try infusing the oil with garlic and fennel seed yummm. Or in the last stages of cooking add crushed garlic and rosemary in a little oil and coat potatoes, and cook for a liitle longer.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: BBQ - salad and dessert options without dairy - 7 years ago
What about just crunchy roasted potatoes, even with garlic and rosemary flavours Always a hit in our family. Or even new baby potatoes with mint.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Dinner Party with the theme RED - 7 years ago
Red wine poached pears, strawberry tart, red velvet cup cakes.....alcoholic jelly with fruit set into it... In*ian style keb*b nibbles perhaps using red peppers as well, or marinating haloumi in the marinade as well to make it red... stuffed small tomatoes, stuffed peper dews, (small red sausages wiith tomato sauce) Sounds like fun....by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Goodie Bags - 7 years ago
The only doggie bags I would personally take home is an i*dian curry, most other cuisines/dishes would probably not do so well in the taking home and reheating. I agree with over buying food, I know I personally need to start buying only a few meals a week and seeing if I need anymore... but I think we are mostly time poor and the thoughts of grocery shopping most nights sees a majority of us oby Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Which Onion? - 7 years ago
I use both , but prefer brown onions, just slice very finely. You could soften slightly on the plate if you machine has flat plates.by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Cooking red meat for the first time - 7 years ago
I probably agree with karena. Being veggie should I want to start eating red meat a hunk of steak would probably be off putting, whilst adding it into sauces would be more palatable.... you could try shepherd's pie, or a kofta, that is well flavoured also. A lovely home made burger or meatballs. If you wanted a whole peice of meat what about something like beef olives?by Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Advice on improving chicken recipe I've been doing - 7 years ago
Lorna not really sure which word or combo of words I used that weren't liked, but basically a bit better worded reply with the same ingredients. Maybe just a glitchby Karen - Foodlovers Food Talk
