Re: Family Sharing - Apple ID - 8 years ago
Thats fantastic Irene - I love how technology can make our lives better and safer if used right. I use Map My Run thats a GPS running tracker - currently I use the free version BUT the paid one is a LIVE track so friends as in people I know that share that app can see where you are in real time. Ive often thought it a good idea if out running alone especially in a bush type setting where therby Vanessa - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Using a food processor to mince chicken? - 8 years ago
Does anyone else do this? I love cooking but can be a bit lazy and cut corners. I used to have an old mincer but hated cleaning it and doing it bit by bit so now use my food processor - especially for chicken (thighs) and add other bits and pieces too. Is this the done thing? Or am I ruining the meat? BTW I tried it with breasts and it wasnt great. Vanessaby Vanessa - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: cafes for lunch between Akld airport & city - 8 years ago
Ekkk use your GPS BUT the exit you need to take is AFTER Tristram Ave exit and its on your left. Then you make a right 90 degree turn on to Constellation. Farro is on your right BUT you will need to take the right hand turn at the first lights.. Keep going and you will end up at the police station ;-)by Vanessa - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: cafes for lunch between Akld airport & city - 8 years ago
What about a stop in Ponsonby Central? Its really lovely and numerous restaurants to choose from. My ultimate favourite is the Blue Breeze Inn - modern Asian BUt my parents often have a meal at the Japanese restaurant and rave about it. (They are in their 70s!) There is also a few "produce" 'foodie" shops and cafes. its a great atmosphere. (Cheese, meat, fish and vegetaby Vanessa - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Whole smoked chicken on the Weber - 8 years ago
Yep it was a Weber Q and the skin wasn't dry and I stuffed it with an onion and a lemon! ( As well as small wood chips) Thats part of the fun though, I will make a few adaptions and give it ago again. Thanks Vanessaby Vanessa - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Christmas successes and flops. - 8 years ago
*Deboned and stuffed turkey from Farro was a total success - it was delicious something Id buy all year round. *My pavlova tasted fantastic despite being an off white colour. *My sisters ricotta cheese cake although I did tell her it looked curdled BUT tasted great, the vanilla and lemon flavour was divine. *The cheese selection - a delicious stilton, a stinky gooey bri and feally crumbly aby Vanessa - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: What is your cooking resolution for 2016? - 8 years ago
To follow the trend of "Economy Gastronomy" . (book by the same title by Allegra McEvery and Paul Merrett) Not necessary buying the cheapest but for example buying the whole salmon rather than 100g packets. Using cheaper cuts and slow cooking and being ORGANISED so Im not just popping up to the supermarket and spending $50 getting milk! Also adding flavour - lots of it and freshby Vanessa - Foodlovers Food Talk
ham bone stock ideas please - 8 years ago
Once again I have the Christmas ham bone. Ive made a stock and thinking about pea and ham soup but wondering if anyone has some other ideas with the stock? Theres quite a bit of stock as it was a 12kg ham. This is the only good thing about the rubbish weather at the moment - its awful in Auckland! Vanessaby Vanessa - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: How do I make a WHITE pavlova ? - 8 years ago
I used this recipe but after making it 4 times, I NEVER achieved pure white. Each time I reduced the temperature and it got better and better. I think I need to clean my oven. It tasted great though and was disguised with cream and berries. Vanessaby Vanessa - Foodlovers Food Talk

Vodafone - unlimited internet for no extra cost - 8 years ago
Did anyone else get this? I got a generic letter saying as Im so loyal they are giving me UNLIMITED internet as of the 1st Jan for no extra cost. I pay $49 at the moment BUT do have my mobile with them and pay for SKY TV (basic) via them. I know it wont be long before everyone upgrades to fibre and will renegotiate a deal but for now, Im pretty happy. The bonus is, it coincides with Sby Vanessa - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Whole smoked chicken on the Weber - 8 years ago
So we tried this in the weekend. We have a proper Weber stainless steel thing for the wood chips but brought chips that were quite fine and they fell through the holes. We added some tin foil with holes in it as a makeshift idea and ended up piling up a heap of wood chips (Manuka) in to the center part so the either end would get ventilation. We added a garlic salt on to the chicken and sby Vanessa - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: How do I make a WHITE pavlova ? - 8 years ago
Thanks for the fingers crossed solutions - arghhh a clean oven, Im pretty sure mine doesnt qualify as clean enough but Im not really in the mood for cleaning it ore Xmas. Ill risk it and try a lower temperature and be more accurate with everything. Maybe Ill clean the window though, it totally bugged me not to be able to have a peak at it (or whip it out if it was browning - I know I know a rby Vanessa - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Olive Oil - 8 years ago
Dont buy extra virgin, its usually much stronger in taste. I find the more expensive ones much more flavoursome and my preference but the more "generic supermarket brands" are still good, especially if you are adding other flavours to your dressings.by Vanessa - Foodlovers Food Talk
How do I make a WHITE pavlova ? - 8 years ago
Ive made pavlova for the first time last week, trying it out before Christmas and for my partners birthday BUT I cant get it to be WHITE. The first attempt was cooked at 180 for 5 mins then turned down to 130 for about an hour (yep, you can tell Im not the best baker in terms of accuracy with my 'about" comment). My second attempt was a bit better and I lowered the temperature at the begby Vanessa - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Family Sharing - Apple ID - 8 years ago
Irene - it totally looks possible - you need family sharing set up and i imagine itunes turned on, on both devices (assuming thats how you buy your music and you should be good to go) Family Sharing iTunes and Family Sharing Family Sharing makes it easy for your family to share content from the iTunes, iBooks, and App Store without sharing accounts. Hey Irene, I haven't researched it but asked my partner the other day (prior to reading this) if he wanted some of my recently purchased from itunes, exercise music. He said it wasn't an easy thing to do so Im guessing its a NO GO to make us spend more money/protect the music industry. Ill look into it now you've mentioned it though... Family Sharing - Apple ID - 8 years ago
Does anyone use this with their family? Ive just set it up for my son, put in his age so the FREE things he downloads need to be age appropriate or need my permission. I can see where he is via his ipad and share apps/music that Ive paid for on all our devices. Ive just had to make sure Ive turned off photos, messages and emails of mine, I done want him receiving them ;-) Has anyone gotby Vanessa - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: How do you spruce up your Christmas table? - 8 years ago
Im thinking of raiding the neighbours rosemary bush and tie red velvet ribbons around small bunches. I also saw a really easy idea in a charity shop window that looked super simple and cheap to make. I though on on everyones plate it would look really cute ;-) Ive been trying to upload it but it wont accept my file (its a Jpeg and under the size limit???) and cant find anything similar but fouby Vanessa - Foodlovers Food Talk
