That’s lovely Ali and Gran. So nice to read a good news story.by Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Good news topic - 9 months ago
Heather F, I have seen video footage of the annual cuttlefish mating and would love to see it in person. I was reminded of your post when diving on Saturday and we came across two cuttlefish who were just chilling. We stayed and watched them for a bit and one of them came swimming towards me. It was leaving its bommie going over white sand and turned white to match the sand. As it turned whitby Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: What's your hobby besides cooking? - 9 months ago
I love Wasgij too! But when the weather allows, would rather be outdoors. Current hobbies are scuba diving (when it is warm), skiing (when it is cold) and hiking (all year round).by Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: What has happened to our forum? - 9 months ago
Also, I think a part of it is just the way life changes and moves on. I used to contribute a LOT and was looking for something particular so did a search of "All Dates" and came across some of my old posts. I totally forgot how much I used to cook and the fabulous things I used to make. My personal circumstances have changed considerably and I now rarely cook dinner, I have oats for breby Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: A smile for Sunday - 11 months ago
Ali, that is such a sweet story and it made me smile. Lovely that strangers of two vehicles that are generations apart (the vehicles, that is, and not the owners) shared a moment.by Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Finger Limes - 11 months ago
I’m envious too. Are these available for purchase commercially? I realise they’re finished for the season but will keep an eye out next year if there is a supplier. Don’t remember seeing them in the supermarket.by Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Air Fryer - 1 year ago
I second everything Irene says. I have the same cheapie from K Mart and loved it so much I bought a second one for my second home. I held off for a long time thinking they were a gimmick but have since found that the convection oven doesn't have anywhere near as strong a fan as the air fryer. I had some crackers that had lost their crispness so laid them out on the three trays to crisp them uby Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk

Merry Xmas all from very, very cold Canada. Wishing you all a COVID-free 2023, hoping that the pandemic years are behind us and that life will return to normal..by Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Manuka Smoked chicken and Spinach and Lemon Risotto - 1 year ago
Chris, you don’t have to use fresh tomatoes. I’ve made it using canned tomatoes and also used leftover pasta sauce and it’s been good both ways. I actually prefer using pasta sauce as it’s more herby and garlicky. The recipe serves two so I cook it in two ovenproof ramekins and put about two or three generous tablespoons of pasta sauce in each one then serve it with a slice of crusty bread.by Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Manuka Smoked chicken and Spinach and Lemon Risotto - 1 year ago
You don't have to cook them separately. I just add them to the risotto in the last five minutes of cooking time, assuming they are at room temperature. If they are chilled, I would probably add them a little earlier - say eight minutes. Plus any juices are absorbed by the rice - yum! If you still have prawns left, try this. It's one of my favourites as it's easy and tasty:by Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk

It happened to me this morning on my iPad, but not on the iPhone. I cleared all browsing history, caches and cookies and it appears to have fixed it.by Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Dukkah - 1 year ago
I love it on hummus. For lunch, I have a couple of crispbread spread with hummus (or any sort of spread that you prefer), sprinkled with dukkah and a sliced salad vegetable on top e.g. celery, cucumber, tomato, or whatever takes your fancy. It's also nice sprinkled on a halved hard boiled egg instead of salt. And I have successfully frozen it but find that if I keep it in the fridge, it lasby Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Multi cookers - what do you cook in yours? - 1 year ago
The pressure cooker makes fabulous risotto - you get intense flavour and you don't have to stand and stir.by Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk

Not sure about NZ pricing but in North America everything is so much cheaper you quickly recoup the annual fee. But you generally have to buy in bulk.by Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Lollies - 2 years ago
Not just America, Irene. I spent a chunk of my working life in Asia where there is a strong American influence and my son was schooled there. They referred to it as candy as well. I love that we are so diverse and accepting of other cultures.by Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Lollies - 2 years ago
OMG are you serious when you say "if they are to be sold at all they should be hidden away behind a curtain the way "adult" videos were in the days of video shops". I love my treats and have a lolly jar on one of my floating shelves in full display and not hidden away behind a curtain. I eat three nutritious meals each day, I run 7km each weekday morning and tramp in the weeby Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk

Good morning Gran. I think you mean Napoleon Slice also known as Mille Feuille (which translates to "thousand sheets" ). I have made this a few times as it is a quick easy dessert. Here's a recipe:by Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Why does it cost more to repair appliances than to buy new? - 2 years ago
Regarding the iPhone, I had the battery replaced. From memory, it cost about $60 and two years on, it is still going strong. I did get a new one also but the old one is a media player plus I use it as a satellite so I can leave my new phone in the office and not have to run upstairs when it rings.by Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Dawn, thanks for sharing the recipe for Weetbix Delux. I used to make that many, many years ago and lost the recipe. I will be saving it in a safe place this timeby Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk

That is very thoughtful of you Helen and want to reiterate what others said - as long as it is contactless, there is no exposure for your neighbours. I wish you were my neighbourby Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Garment Steamer Recommendations - 2 years ago
Am I one of the few that don't mind doing the ironing? I still iron pillowcases, sheets (but just the hem edge at the top to ensure it sits flat), hankies (you can't take tissues jogging and my nose runs when it's cold!) and cotton shirts. I put my favourite podcast on and listen to it whilst ironing. I have a cheapie handheld steamer and it's good for when I take a shirt from the wardrobe thaby Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Dinner in Auckland City - 2 years ago
Dinner at Ostro on Saturday night was superb - the food was faultless and likewise the service. If I am going out for dinner I insist that it must be something better than I could cook at home and it was definitely that. Thanks for the recommendation.by Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Multi-cooker - 2 years ago
I have the CrockPot Express MultiCooker - I bought the XL 7.6 litre as I liked it's capacity. BUT it still hasn't been out of it's box It has good reviews thoughby Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Dinner in Auckland City - 2 years ago
Well that was a challenge. I tried The Grove, Mr Morris, Baduzzi and Depot - all fully booked tomorrow night. Managed to get a booking at Ostro so will have to return to try the othersby Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Has anyone designed a new kitchen? - 2 years ago
Griz, I am in the middle of getting a new kitchen and my kitchen designer is also an interior designer. She has done one of those mood(?) boards with samples of the benchtop, cupboards, floor tiles, splashback, paint, etc, which is great for seeing how it all works together. However, not all of them have that experience so just ask a few questions before you choose.by Lynette - Foodlovers Food Talk
Dinner in Auckland City - 2 years ago
I have been given a $150 voucher to use at one of the following restaurants. I haven't eaten out in Auckland for years so don't know Auckland restaurants at all. Which would you choose? Ahi, Queen Street Alma, Quay Street Baduzzi, North Wharf Cafe Hanoi, Britomart Depot, Federal Street Euro, Princes Wharf Huami, Federal Street Lobster & Tap, Jellicoe Street Mr Morris, Britomart, Oby Lynette - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
