Re: Shopping Scams - 6 weeks ago
Not quite shopping but an online purchase regardless - several weeks ago I received an email from my internet provider saying that their services were going to cease for all third party users (like me) - I use this provider for my email name & mail box but have a fibre connection to my home with another more local service. Anyway - it all looked so very genuine (it often does) & stupidby mantilla - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Whole Smoked Chickens - Can't buy them now? - 6 months ago
hi Danube, yes I expect the cost of a whole chicken as opposed to just the breast means that many supermarkets dont sell them if there is not enough demand - however a Google search this morning showed me this supplier in Wanaka. They are still expensive but if you wanted it for a special meal the price of the chicken & then the postage may be OK to consider. Pams website also list thby mantilla - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: What's your hobby besides cooking? - 9 months ago
I will keep this short (I promise) but a friend recently took their rather large stamp collections to a place in Levin or Otaki to see if they could sell them & they were told that apart from 1 or 2 single stamps they were worthless. The place may have been an auction house or maybe it was even Mowbray Collectibles - sorry, not sure. Stamp collecting was one of my hobbies as a child &by mantilla - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

I like (love) patchwork & quilting - our spare room is testament to the years of collecting patterns & fabric - so I'm on a mission to not buy anything new until Ive finished some of my projects. Haha - but I think I need to live until Im about 137 & 3/4 to get everything done (Im 64 now so all going well ... )by mantilla - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Cyclone Gabrielle... - 1 year ago
I'm another Hawkes Bay-ite & feeling very fortunate that me & hubby & our adult kids have been unaffected. Small inconveniences to one of our families with power out for a day & limited access to their in-town work place (we're CHB so slightly south of Hastings) but the effects of all this will be far reaching, expensive, & devastating for many many communities. Re: Sultana cake - 1 year ago
Out of interest I just Googled wooden cake boxes & came up with a Facebook page link for Grandpa's Shed who makes these. Im not sure if this is the business that Barbara Anne refers to above saying that they have gone out of business - but further down on their FB page 34 weeks ago they still commented on the prices. So this could be an option to explore if you get stuck Grandpa’s Shedby mantilla - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Lamb flaps - 2 years ago
I think from memory they can be tasty with longer slow cooking & flavourings. When my eldest child was a baby our household income was very small & we used to eat a lot of these. I think butchers sold them very cheaply then (1982/1983 ish) Sometimes I would roll them & make a stuffing (like Colonial Goose etc); & yes there was a bit of fat to drain off but they can be a cheaperby mantilla - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Where to buy stone fruit in Hawkes Bay? - 2 years ago
Just a note re Greenleaf Nurseries near Clive, I do not think they are open in the weekends (ask me how I know this haha) We have purchased fruit trees & berry plants from there previously & they are very well supplied in this area, just cannot comment on actual fruit at the nursery for sale - but do phone ahead. I second the idea to check out Farmers Markets too before your trip.by mantilla - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Carpet Cleaner recommendation - 2 years ago
hi Plates, we were given an estimate of $250 to $350 for our lounge, dining & family room, master bedroom & hallway - which in hindsight may be based on a small house. We also have 3 large floor rugs that were to be cleaned too. The invoice we have rec'd today is for $770 which includes $276 for the mats (GST incl). A bit higher than the estimate & what I expected but to be fairby mantilla - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Carpet Cleaner recommendation - 2 years ago
I can second this too. Chem Dry are here at my house this morning & are doing an amazing job. The technician has helped us move some of the heavy stuff about & in the past hour & a half has cleaned almost all our house (which is very dusty with concrete cutting dust from our kitchen reno, new puppy accidents & as we live on a shared shingle driveway we have a film of dust ovby mantilla - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Food shortage - 2 years ago
Ive mentioned before that I work in a supermarket & our local one(s) went silly today & all available staff were requested to go in & work. I agree with others on here that if we just buy sensibly there will be enough for everyone - lots of older folk too wont necessarily be able to get to the shops this weekend & they too still would like a choice of product left on the shelves.by mantilla - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Chelsea Golden Syrup and Treacle Recall - 2 years ago
I have seen too on a local Facebook page today (Hawkes Bay) that a 1kg bag of brown sugar was purchased last week in a Countdown shop & its batch number is within the range being advertised as part of the recall. So although brown sugar & maybe raw sugar have been recalled previously there may still be some of these products being put out onto shelves.by mantilla - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Books - 2 years ago
Im not sure if this book has been recommended in this Books post - but Ive just finished reading "The Dressmakers of Auschwitz". It is a true story written by Lucy Adlington who is a British dress historian & who interviewed the few surviving women who were imprisoned in this camp. So lots of childhood memories, courtships, faith & friendships. And so much more. I realise thby mantilla - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Tulips to buy - are they about or ?? - 2 years ago
We have a pretty spring garden here & this year we have been treated to a lovely section of our garden with bright pink & white tulips. Theyre between roses & there is self-sown nigella as well. Anyway, my hubby suggested that I buy more tulips to plant in a gap of several metres & although Ive looked on various bulb websites here in NZ (Bulbs Direct; NZ Bulbs, etc) they are sby mantilla - Garden Lovers Forum
Re: Lockdown Shortages? - 2 years ago
I have heard that the Foodstuffs distribution centre is possibly reducing the types of food product being released to stores at this time - as in prioritising real foods rather than convenience foods. I know that pizzas & chips etc are still coming into our store (I work in a NW store) but I'm not sure if that is from a previous order or how this process will actually work through but weby mantilla - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Lockdown meals - 2 years ago
I made Helens featured recipe talked about in the Tray Bake topic - Harissa Vegetable, Chickpea and Egg Tray Bake for dinner on Friday night - but like lots of cooks & reading some of the ideas in that post I also added chicken drumsticks instead of the eggs & changed the Harissa paste to a Moroccan spice mix - so not quite a remake of the meal haha. But the idea was great, it sorted oby mantilla - Foodlovers Food Talk

Morning everyone, Here I am sitting at my computer, should be paying bills online & other important stuff & I got to thinking about what others are up to in this lockdown #2 (apologies to any Aucklanders or others who have experienced more lockdowns than this - I am in HB & this is just our 2nd, hopefully the last) I had a lovely day in the garden yesterday chopping back hydranby mantilla - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: whole chicken recipe ideas please - 2 years ago
I did end up using Tpandav's recipe with the spatchcocked chicken & it was so lovely & tender. I also bought a couple of Maryland chicken pieces (drumstick & thigh still attached) as there were 6 of us & I wasnt sure how far the whole chicken would stretch. Because it was a larger chicken (no size but easily 1 1/2 kilos I think) I planned on cooking it for 1 hour - 1 1/2 hours bby mantilla - Foodlovers Food Talk

whole chicken recipe ideas please - 2 years ago
Morning everyone, I bought two Brinks fresh chickens over the weekend (on special) & thought I could cook both of them for a birthday dinner planned for this weekend. But I am drawing a complete blank & despite having dozens of cookbooks here at home & reading through these FL pages & recipes I am struggling to find the recipe I want to cook.
