Re: Stain Removal - 1 year ago
Thanks ladies for your suggestions. I got a small milk stain on a top recently too and struggled to get rid of it. The thing that did the trick was good old Palmolive dishwashing liquid. Has anyone tried Sard wonder stick?by amwilliams - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Stain Removal - 1 year ago
No I haven't tried Persil automatic. Have used Shout Gel in the past and found it really good but recently found that I applied it to marks and left it for 5 minutes but the colour of some garments changed where I had applied it. Some people have said to just rub in some ordinary dish washing detergent and that can help so think I will try that. Have been looking for the Sard stick which I haveby amwilliams - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Cleaning a dishwasher - 1 year ago
What do people find good at cleaning their dishwasher? The rubber seal gets quite dirty. Have put through the hottest wash with dishwashing powder but that hasn't helped. Thanksby amwilliams - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: wool pilling - 3 years ago
There's a good article been written by the Perriam New Zealand Knitting Family on their Facebook page about pilling. Worth a read. It's an interesting group to join about wool and patterns. I am very frustrated by the current wools that you buy and knit up and then they rub and pill immediately. I still like the older crepe wool if I can get hold of any.by amwilliams - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Quince Paste - 3 years ago
Thanks for your help in making quince past. It turned out really well. The recipe all seem to say 1 cup of pulp to 1 cup of sugar. Has anyone tried making it with less sugar or would that not be a good idea? Maybe it wouldn't go as thick,by amwilliams - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Couch grass or twitch - 3 years ago
Thanks Griz and Helen. It is a constant battle for me too. Was hoping someone might have an easy solution!! Looks like I will just have to keep using my fingers to pull up each little bit or persist with mulch.by amwilliams - Garden Lovers Forum

Thanks Kathryn. How long does the paste keep and how do you store it?by amwilliams - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Quince Paste - 3 years ago
Thanks Lorna. I made quince paste a few years ago and ended up with splatters all over the stove and on my hands and arms. It was a bit like boiling mud splattering. That's why I am keen on the crockpot. Thanks for the link.by amwilliams - Foodlovers Food Talk

Cleaning Windows - 3 years ago
Does anyone have suggestions for cleaning windows? Have had the Spider and Fly spray man do the outside windows and they had to be left for 10 days before cleaning. I have tried to search for previous comments but it doesn't come up with anything. What am I doing wrong? Thanks Averilby amwilliams - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Fluff on towels - 3 years ago
An update on trying baking soda and hot water wash with the towels. Just did that once. Still a little bit of fluff coming off but much better when using them. Have dried them on the line then put them in the drier for just a few minutes. Quite a bit of fluff comes off in the drier but seem to be getting less and we don't get the same amount of fluff on us when using them. So I think a combiby amwilliams - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Sally Lunn Bun recipe - 3 years ago
Thanks Barbara Anne I looked up an old hand written recipe book of mine last night after I had made it, and found the recipe with the smaller amount of milk too, so will stick to that. It ended up tasting nice and the texture was fine but just very flat. We are Southlanders but did live in Auckland for a few years many years ago. So I am never sure which name to call it. Thanks for your commeby amwilliams - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Sally Lunn Bun recipe - 3 years ago
Thanks for your detailed reply. Yes I did use the Foodlovers recipe. After I had made the recipe, I found the Allyson Gofton recipe with only 1/4 cup of milk which is very different amount from 1 cup of milk but both recipes with 2 cups of flour. It tastes nice but is very flat. Next time will try it with only 1/4 cup milk. I think the only other thing I should have done was cook it in aby amwilliams - Foodlovers Food Talk

Sally Lunn Bun recipe - 3 years ago
Just made the Sally Lunn Bun recipe and it seems a very wet mixture. Used Agria potatoes and when I put the mix on the tray it has gone quite runny and flat. I used 1 cup of milk like the recipe said. Has anyone else had this problem?by amwilliams - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Fluff on towels - 3 years ago
Still not sure about the fluff situation. Tried the baking soda and hot water in the washing machine and finished off the towels in the drier. Still quite a lot of fluff came off a green one but not off a fawn coloured one. Will try the baking soda and hot water with the navy and red one. Will keep you posted.by amwilliams - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Fluff on towels - 3 years ago
Hi Barbara Anne I tried doing one of the towels in the drier and couldn't believe how much fluff came out. I'm going to try the baking soda idea tomorrow with 2 other towels that have the same problem. Will let you know how it goes. Averilby amwilliams - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Fluff on towels - 3 years ago
I bought some new towels recently. They are made in Pakistan - quite thick towels. I bought navy and red and washed them before we used them. They shed fluff still - when you hang the towels up after having a shower, you can see some little bits of coloured fluff on the floor below. Some fluff comes off and sticks to you a bit as you dry yourself. Has anyone else had this problem and howby amwilliams - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Substitute for Wholemeal flour - 3 years ago
Thanks - looks like I will just have to be patient until wholemeal flour comes back into the supermarkets or maybe just use plain flour instead.by amwilliams - Foodlovers Food Talk
