I have tried Lorna's phone, email and have also left a message on the Whitianga Sen net group as know she used to be part of this. Nothing to report as yet.by helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Shaking up the old menu rotation - 6 months ago
As I am constantly recipe testing we do seem to try new recipes regularly. A new favourite is Vietnamese Style Pork & Prawn Balls with salad and nuoc cham sauce. Essentially lots of lemongrass, garlic in the balls and mint, coriander and basil in the salad. I am happy to share the recipe and will take a photo this week.by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Tried ChatGPT? - 6 months ago
It is amazing how easy it is to get a recipe, Daisy kept asking me for a recipe that I made a rowing camps which I had completely forgotten about. She told me what i had put in it and I entered the cooking style and ingredients into Chat GPT and Daisy got the recipe she wanted.by helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Preparing for El Nino - 6 months ago
Our garden is sodden as aside from a few fine days it has essentially rained in Auckland since the end of December, so 9 months. With El Nino weather system about to arrive and the threat of drought conditions I am wondering what I can do help the garden cope. Would it be sensible to apply lots of pea straw mulch to the wet ground in order to lock moisture in for as long as possible or is thatby helen - Garden Lovers Forum

I love Google maps, I have memories of Ed and I travelling and having very heated conversations re my inability to read a map and give him directions. I am so pleased those days are over. I do agree tho re people engrossed in phones and missing out on so much.by helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Controversial Date Loaf - 6 months ago
I made exactly the recipe for the image and others have made the recipe with success so it is weird that it is so polarising even with volume measures as opposed to grams...hmmby helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Checking In - 6 months ago
Being heavily committed with my day job at MenuAid (I am sure you will see a bit improvement in images from when some of you last looked), I am trying to factor in some weekend time to catch up here. Lorna has done a great job at keeping spammers under control but I am just looking around and haven't seen her name for a good few months. I am hoping all is well and I will of course email her to cby helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Tried ChatGPT? - 6 months ago
Chris is it totally straight forward. You just go to Open AI Chat and register as a user. I think I am pointing you to the right place but if not you will end up having to register. You then go to the chat page and where it says "send a message" you ask a question. Just think of something you want an answer to. If you have any problems at all then please ask me as I can easily geby helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Controversial Date Loaf - 6 months ago
Our Date Loaf recipe just had a negative review and in looking through the reviews there is a mix of positive and terrible. It is concerning. I made it for the photo and it was great, yes it does have 3 cups flour but makes either 2 small or 1 large loaf. I did a search here and found more positive reviews on it being a favourite. Any thoughts from you?by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Tried ChatGPT? - 6 months ago
I use ChatGPT on a daily basis for recipe writing assistance. Often I will ask for a list of ideas using a certain ingredient or cooking style and then will ask for a specific recipe with ingredients that I am wanting to use. I find it invaluable although it still needs a human eye as often there are errors or a crazy amount of an ingredient that couldn't possibly work.by helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

I do the same J1, all oil goes into the garden although I have to do it in secret so our dog doesn't see. There has been many a time when she has an awful smudgy oily face from rummaging in the garden where I have tipped oil.by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Glacial acetic acid for homemade tomato sauce - 1 year ago
Hi J1 I have phoned City Med pharmacy where I bought mine and she was very nervous about sending it anywhere but has agreed to deliver to me. Her hesitation was in case it smashed and leaked. I have ordered 2 x 100ml bottles and will send you one or do you need more? I only use a few teaspoons each year. Please can you email me your address and I will put it with a courier as soon as it arriveby helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
These damn adverts - 1 year ago
Thanks for being so patient with all these ad spaces. They are driving me mad and I have just requested that we lose some. I bought a specific brand of B3 vitamins ( for skin cancer prevention by the way) and now I am overwhelmed with ads here for the same. Aargh.by helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Glacial acetic acid for homemade tomato sauce - 1 year ago
I bought glacial acetic acid a year or so ago from a pharmacy in central Auckland. They couriered it to me. I made my sauce on Saturday and thankfully still have another year of it before I will need more. Do you want me to find out exactly where and see if they still have it?by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Air Fryer - 1 year ago
Oh gosh I wish I had bought the Kmart version now. I just needed one all of a sudden. I must admit I pretty impressed with the things we have cooked so far in terms of ease, speed and results. The K mart 3 in 1 looks to be the next level though.by helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Egg supply - 1 year ago
I work with Traditional Free Range Eggs and Matthew has never mentioned any export market that is driving lack of supply. I will ask him. A large contributing factor on price is grain (feed) prices. We have a global shortage due to Ukraine and also the use of wheat and barley as fuel so taking it away from the food chain. There are also farms that have shut down due to the pressure to convertby helen - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Air Fryer - 1 year ago
J1 thanks for posting that link which was worth reading. I did buy an Air Fryer today as needed to for work. I bought a Living & Co 5. something litre at the Warehouse. Price was great - $125 or so. Size is enormous on the bench. Today we made panko, parmesan and herb crusted zucchini sticks plus Everything but the bagel spice mix chicken drumsticks for dinner. The size of the air fryeby helen - Foodlovers Food Talk

Egg supply - 1 year ago
Just when I hoped the egg supply was slowly improving it was devastating on so many levels to see that Zeagold have had a fire in a Waikato farm today and 75,000 hens perished. The hideousness of this is obviously terrible and hopefully they died quickly from smoke inhalation. 500,000 eggs less on the market per week is going to have repercussions for a long time. Floods and are you OK? - 1 year ago
The floods in the north have thankfully been just an inconvenience for us, Jemima our 19 year old was stuck between slips north of Puhoi for many hours last Friday but that was it. Lorna you have been top of my mind, how are you coping and are you cut off or OK? Is everyone else who lives in the regions impacted doing OK?by helen - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
