Re: Just an Xmas Moan - 3 months ago
Oh Griz, what a complete pain in the "grass' all that sounds! Could you point them toward your kitchen and tell them your Christmas lunch is pina coladas on the back patio, and they can go help themselves? I'm doing a cold lunch this year, first time in many years, and with the boned rolled & stuffed chooks (bought already done from a freerange butcher), I'm making the sweet potato salaby Heather F - Foodlovers Food Talk

Hi Danube, I'm sorry but I don't have an actual recipe. I use good quality sausages and take them out of the skin then add whatever flsvourings I have or feel like- sometimes fresh herbs from ther garden, or taco seasoning, or even a bit of curry powder. I buy the smallest eggs - found out the hard way if I use the jumbo ones I normally get, I make Scotch footballs as they're so huge once wrappedby Heather F - Foodlovers Food Talk

Hi Jal, Recipetineats has a whole stuffed butternut pumpkin (vegan) recipe that looks impressive. It is in her book Dinner, if you know someone who has it. Otherwise, there are some roasted veggie salads that look impressive and are very tasty. The sweet potato one on recipetineats with the honey lemon dressing is lovely, and you could adapt it to make it vegan (leave out the bacon, fetta and subby Heather F - Foodlovers Food Talk

Shaking up the old menu rotation - 6 months ago
Hi All, Got a bit bored with the 'same old same old', so have tried a couple of new recipes lately, and we've loved both of them. the first one - Argentinian Choripan from Taste, I made a bit of a boo-boo and bought the already cooked chorizo, but I don't think that mattered too much. So delish and easy: And the other one was using good ole mince, also from Taste, though Recipetineatby Heather F - Foodlovers Food Talk

Hi All, today I'd like to let you know about another SA festival, on for the month of July, called Firstival. It's all about trying something new, and for all ages, from bubs on up. There is a diverse range of things to try, from craft, family lego, personal security, and growing herbs for teas.by Heather F - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Hi All, My good news today is that the bakery at Farina is open! Why is this good news? Well, Farina is a ghost town in the South Australian outback, about 615 kms north of Adelaide, and each year, from roughly end of May, for 8 weeks, a group of volunteers travel up there to reopen the bakery, and the proceeds from the sale of baked goods goes to the restoration/preservation of the towby Heather F - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

My 'good news' today is to tell you about some festivals on here atm. For those who don't know, South Australia is known as the festival state, and there certainly seems to be some sort of festival on almost every week! The annual cabaret festival ended a week ago, and it seems to have been one of the best yet. I'm not so mobile these days, so haven't been for a few years but have loved shows liby Heather F - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

My good news story this week is about the giant cuttlefish annual mating aggregation. These amazing creatures appear every year near Whyalla (a rural town approx 4 1/2 hrs west of Adelaide), between late May - early August, and Whyalla is the only place in the world that this occurs. This year is already shaping up to be a very good year for numbers; some years numbers are way down and no-one knoby Heather F - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

TPANDAV, there's a thing in Oz called Pub Choir (not sure if it's in NZ). basically a random group of people, often several hundred, after perhaps having had a few relaxing 'beverages', learn a song, and then sing it in 3 part harmony and it's filmed for their website (pubchoir.com.au). You don't need to be a good singer, it's about fun and joy. The girl who started it in Brisbane does the teachiby Heather F - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Tks Marnie - good to know diet lemonade and soda water work just as well. Yum Ali - love a good homemade saussie roll. I used to make mini ones for Mum when I came over, and made lots so she could freeze them and just take out what she wanted.by Heather F - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

If you've read my other post, you'll know why I've opened this up. Helen hope this is ok. So, at the ripe old age of 68, I've learned how to make light fluffy scones! Mine were always ok, in a solidish way, but... And the secret I've found, and probably heaps of you know this already, is the lemonade and cream recipe. Hi Ali, interesting to read the comments, and following on from my post above, I've decided to start a good news topic (talking the talk I guess), if that's ok by Helen. I'm not a Pollyanna, but there just has to be good/cheerful/funny news to relay. I lost interest in cooking anything different for quite a while, but thankfully seem to be coming out of that. It would be sad to see the end of Fby Heather F - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Hi Ali, I don't post much (I'm in Adelaide), but do pop in to read new topics or comments. I wonder if people are just exhausted? After Covid and all that brought with it, and now interest rates, cost of living, astronomical rent rises etc etc, it seems there is a neverending stream of doom and gloom. Re: Tried ChatGPT? - 11 months ago
Hi Barbara Anne, yes I realise it can unfortunately be used for bad purposes, much like the Net. A friend used it to help writing a fiddly bit of code and found it did the job well on that occasion, but also said it doesn't always work as well. I guess it's still in it's infancy. I hope that a way to catch the cheaters will be found soon.by Heather F - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Tried ChatGPT? - 11 months ago
Hi FL, has anyone else tried this? I have and was quite pleasantly surprised. I wanted a recipe for a high protein vegetarian lasagne, and looked at lots of recipes but didn't find any I liked, so I asked ChatGPT, and up popped a recipe that included lentils and ricotta and no faffing with a béchamel sauce. I made it and it was very tasty. It doesn't cite the source of the recipe.by Heather F - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Hi Foodlovers, I find myself with 3 red and 7 green, long chillies, after 'him indoors' had a brain fade and picked them all at once!! Homemade ice cream - 1 year ago
Hi Everyone, I made the rum and raisin ice cream from Recipetineats yesterday, and I must say I am very impressed with the result. I had to make some changes due to the ingredients I had (used Cointreau as I didn't have dark rum, and the sweetened condensed milk was skim). The texture is very creamy and flavour lovely, though a little too boozy for me. I'm going to try her stby Heather F - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Tiramisu. Query - 1 year ago
Hi Chris, I make tiramisu several times a year - an absolute favourite! I made it recently for friends, one of whom is not a coffee drinker and wasn't sure he'd like it. After one spoonful he just about fell into the bowl and ended up having three helpings lol. The recipe I use says to mix instant coffee, water and marsala together. Re: Lime recipes: Hit me please! - 1 year ago
Hi Plates, bit of a segue, but I've had lime creme brulee in a posh restaurant, absolutely delish. And I've made lemon posset for guests a number of times; so easy and again so yummy, and I can't see why lime posset wouldn't also be good but I would probably be a bit cautious re the amount of rind used, in case it's a bit overpowering. I've made lime curd and stored it in the fridge for aroundby Heather F - Foodlovers Food Talk

Hi Danube, I've made the Thai Beef Salad from recipetineats a couple of times this summer, and it is so delish. I make it as per the recipe except pare back the chilli a little. Hi Alabaster, this year for my foodie gifts, I made toasted muesli with cashews, almonds, apricots, cranberries and maple syrup; parmesan thyme black pepper biscuits paired with a nice cheese, and tarragon mayo. And in previous years I've made lemon barley and passionfruit cordial, spicy roasted nuts, shortbread (the non gritty one), fruit mince, and herb flavoured butters.
