Re: Wool or man made fibre carpet, which is best - 11 years ago
I saw this demo-ed at a home show a few years ago (hippo carpet). Unbelievable, no flattened carpet after heavy furniture is put on, and.....stains (virtually anything) come out with just cold water! When we are ready to replace our 100% wool carpet, I certainly will be looking at the hippo one again, and am 99% convinced it is the way to go!by PatMac - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Kaffir Lime Leaves - 12 years ago
I bought some Kaffir Lime Leaves (Fresh) today from Moore Wilson. Do I leave them in the curry or take them out before serving? The recipe just says Add 2 T (Valcom, brand name)? Doesn't say anything else, I couldn't buy them in my local supermarket so don't know whether I'm supposed to use fresh or not. (If there is an alternative, I don't know). Can someone who is familiar with them please aby PatMac - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: What would u do? - 12 years ago
I have a 3G wireless kindle which I bought from Amazon in the US. My husband liked it so much, got one for him too. Books are simple to download, they are easy to read even in bed. I like the idea of the paperless reads in lot's of instances as it avoids clutter and also ask yourself this - how many times do you read the same book at the end of the day. Once, twice. Why have 100's of books gby PatMac - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Thermomix? - 13 years ago
About 3 weeks ago I went to a demo at my neighbours. What these machines can do is totally amazing. I would love one, but husband says that I have a cupboard full of appliances already! If ever I have a windfall, that is where my money will go. I envy my neighbour because she did buy one.by PatMac - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Ground Almonds - 13 years ago
Hi. Our local cafe makes lovely friands and as I love baking thought I would make them too, so bought this big amount from the wholesalers (Moore Wilson) in Wgton. 6 eggs in the friands are a bit OTT so I only made them the once, they stick to the tins like mad too.by PatMac - Foodlovers Food Talk

Garlic Butter - 14 years ago
I use quite a bit of garlic butter for veges etc and have been buying pottles of it from the supermarket. I would really like to make my own and wonder if I should freeze it or keep in the fridge. Has anyone done this and if so does the garlic keep quite well when it is mixed? I would probably make at least half a packet of butter and keep in a margarine container.by PatMac - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Freezing Eye Fillet - 15 years ago
I live rurally and really must freeze meat as the trips to the local supermarket is not one I would do everyday. I have no problems with freezing and thawing but I always wrap the meat in gladwrap in portion sizes then always put these into sealed freezer bags. Meat keeps well no freezer burns!by PatMac - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Do you check the 'use by' date? - 15 years ago
After reading these posts I feel positively inadequate that I don't always check the dates. C....down Supermarket here in Levin are pathetic, I find a lot of expired and due to expire goods, but usually after I get them home. Annoys the hell out of me. Food is expensive enough without throwing stuff away that has simply "got past it". I've taken stuff back before today too, but that iby PatMac - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: curried sausages - 15 years ago
I have been making this recipe for over 40 years! I learn't it at school! Take the skins off the sausages and shape into flatish patties, brown in a little oil. Have a pot with some water to which has been added some maggi chicken stock, chopped onion, chopped carrot. When veges are nearly tender throw in the sausage patties and cook for a wee while. Thicken with flour and a couple tsps of cby PatMac - Foodlovers Food Talk
BESSEMER Cookware - 15 years ago
I was down at the Wellington Home show the other week and they were demonstrating Bessemer Cookware on one of the stands. I must admit that I was very taken with what I saw of it but was reluctant to buy any as I have had bad experiences with Scanpan and Look cookware. Has anyone got any of this cookware? I would be very interested in comments about this cookware - good or bad please. PatMacby PatMac - Foodlovers Food Talk
BESSEMER Cookware - 15 years ago
Last Friday I visited the Wellington Home show where I saw some BESSEMER cookware on sale and being demonstrated. To be honest I was blown away by what I saw of this amazing cookware. Needless to say though I didn't buy any because I have been stung before with Scanpan and Look cookware. Apparently this cookware is a household name in Australians and has a good name over there. Has anyone boby PatMac - Buy, Swap and Sell

Re: A new ovens heating times - 15 years ago
This happened when we got our new ss freestanding Ariston Stove. I had exactly same problem, it took ages to heat up. I telephoned Harvey Norman where we bought it and it turned out I was heating on the wrong dial setting! Check with your supplier and get it seen to, their is no way it should take 20mins to get to 180 deg. Good luck. Regards Patby PatMac - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
