Re: Christmas Cake - 3 years ago
There is nothing better than Xmas cake for brunch after a long walk or bike ride. Yes I have made two, I make different recipes nearly every year and they are both iced with yummy almond and white icing. Hence the need for a two hour cycle before hand.by Stephanie D - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Cycling into 2021 - 3 years ago
I cycle everywhere, and have been now for about 20 years. Most of my riding is in Auckland and now there are so many cycleways around you don't need to be scared. It is like driving, you have to be defensive and expect the unexpected but there is nothing better than a lovely bike ride. If you are thinking about e bikes, they are very heavy so if you have to transport them, lifting them onto a rby Stephanie D - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Regular bake vs fan bake - 3 years ago
Modern books seem to use fanbake, old books use classic bake. Mostly I use the bake feature on my oven. If I'm using fanbake I cut back on time as it seems to cook everything much quicker.by Stephanie D - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Commercial stock - 3 years ago
Becoming lazy in my old age, always made my own and always had it on hand in the freezer. Now I use anything, brand doesn't matter and I have even been known to use soup mix thinned down. Lockdown has changed the way I cook considerably.by Stephanie D - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Bokashi, is it worth it? - 3 years ago
I used Bokashi for a number of years but found that here in Auckland, the ground was too wet, in winter, to dig holes to bury the quantities of stuff I had and also my garden wasn't big enough to cope with the waiting period before I could dig and plant.by Stephanie D - Garden Lovers Forum

Re: Range Hoods - 3 years ago
Yes there are quiet ones but they are also the expensive ones. The motors are in the ceiling not in the hood itself. I couldn't justify the price while doing renovations at our beach house so just put in a standard one.by Stephanie D - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Handy kitchen tips - 3 years ago
Keep all those cheese rinds and dried up little edges in a container in the freezer. Whizz them with a food processor and use for toppings on baked items instead of grated cheese,by Stephanie D - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Iceberg lettuce salad with condensed milk dressing - 4 years ago
Still make this dressing sometimes especially if having a drier meat such as chicken breast.I also use it as a spread on bread rolls instead of butter when feeding a crowd. Our salads were lettuce on the bottom then layers of grated carrot, sliced boiled eggs, sometimes spring onion, sliced cucumber and grated cheese. Beetroot on the side.by Stephanie D - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Blueberries and acidifying the soil - 4 years ago
I have 2 blueberries here in suburban West Auckland, they are the best thing I have grown ever. I do absolutely nothing to them. They are now about 6 years old and last year I got 13 kgs of berries.by Stephanie D - Garden Lovers Forum

Re: In praise of Lemon Yoghurt Cake - 4 years ago
My lemon trees, here in West Auckland, all have the dreaded guava moth so no longer can I just run out and grab a lemon. Those of you who don't have this invader, enjoy your bug free lemons for as long as you can.by Stephanie D - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Global issues - 4 years ago
Yes we can all contribute in small ways but we still need to enjoy the one life we get. There are amazingly clever young people who will invent new ways of waste disposal, who will invent ways to clean up the environment and who will pave the way for their next generation.by Stephanie D - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Kone. I am sorry to hear about The Captain and the situation you have found yourself in, We are all here if you need a good rant and rave. Perhaps you can start your own thread so it is easier to find rather than have us searching through stove stuff.by Stephanie D - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Stick Blenders - 4 years ago
My stick blender has replaced my fp because of ease of use. I always wanted a mandolin so bought one 2 years ago, it has been used twice-time for it to be on sold me thinks. Crumbing biscuits is done with my stick blender as it has a cup size attachment like a mini fp.by Stephanie D - Foodlovers Food Talk
