Re: Which material for kitchen utensils? - 9 years ago
I go for 18/10 stainless steel 100%......preferably no joins......they go in the dishwasher. You don't have to worry about how temperature tolerance at all or if you scratch them etc.by Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk

Duvets - 9 years ago
Looking to buy a new duvet......current one is a synthetic one 16 yrs old. It really has come to the end of its life. I am comfortable to do some research and wait for a sale for real feather /down one, but what is bothering me is the cleaning. It looks like you need it drycleaned etc - how much does that cost and how often does it need it? Putting cleaning aside, what are the key pointsby Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Queues - 9 years ago
I think it depends on the circumstances of your wait.........regardless of how many people in front of me, I get impatient at people who are paying with cash and spend time digging coins of out their wallets......(just in my head not out aloud). If there are 10 people in front of me, and the queue is moving as efficiently as possible, I am not bothered. In small bakeries/businesses, I don't eby Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Not sure if you are in Auckland, but I saw some today at the bulk food store on Walters Road in Mount Eden. 4.95 for 1 kg.by Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Age of electric blankets - 9 years ago
I am a bit cynical on this one, but I do completely agree that life is worth more than an electric blanket cost. that said, I had one which lasted at least 14 years........and even then it just stopped being in use, it never had an issue. The current one has been in use for about 7 years and no issue. I didn't even know you were supposed to get them tested until reading this post Electricby Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Coffee? - 9 years ago
This is a question that I have been asking myself as well - so how does this machine work, and why don't you have to clean it. How long does it take etc.........I have a $4.00 a day habit, would love to peg that backby Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Dehumidifiers - 9 years ago

Re: 'ventilated' umbrellas - do they work? - 9 years ago
To resolve the loss issue, I bought a bigger bag which the blunt always lives it. I bought the xs metro, the cheapest and smallest, and it is absolutely fine. If the blunt lasts two winters......its comparable to the cost of buying multiple cheap umbrellas so still economical. In Auckland by the way, might not work so well in Wellington although I understand they were made for Wellington weathby Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: 'ventilated' umbrellas - do they work? - 9 years ago
I don't know what a ventilated umbrella, but last September I spend $79 on a blunt - No complaints, and in the end works out cheaper than spending 19.95 regularly on one that is destroyed by wind.by Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Credit Card Points - 9 years ago
I have realised there is no benefit in the points scheme attached to the credit card. Numbers are as follows: 264.00 in annual fees - 44 pa 308.00 in benefits (the free purchases supposedly) So the result is $44 better off on the face of it over 5 years. Off to find a free credit card.by Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: Good stocks - 9 years ago
Same here, I always make my own stock and freeze. Never had a great experience with shop bought...either to salty or too expensive relative to the quantity you get.by Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Do other Foodlovers freeze meals? - 9 years ago
I freeze a lot, but mostly meal bases. I sweat 10 onions with garlic at once and freeze in portions. I make vegetable stock and freeze in containers. I make tomato base - 10 cans of tomatoes and freeze that in containers. I generally find cooking a meal from scratch too time consuming.by Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk

Re: Homemade wasp traps - 9 years ago
My brother in law bought something from Bunning's, just something you sort of puff into the nest. It worked, and I am fairly sure he only did it once. Will find out what it was he bought, and post.by Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Virgin Australia or Delta Airlines - 10 years ago
Thinking of going to NYC in September. The affordable airfares are with Virgin Australia or Delta Airlines. Anyone had any experiences - good and bad flying these airlines. Would be flying economy class. Thanks in advance.by Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat

Re: Grimy Oven Door - 10 years ago
Have you tried just baking soda and water paste and rubbing it over the door by hand.........I did this with a stainless steel splashback which loosened the grease better than any chemical cleaner.by Plates - Foodlovers Non-Foodie Chat
Re: freezing pizza dough - 10 years ago
Thanks, sorry for all the questions. If I freeze balls of dough, how long before you use, do you take out of the freezer. Jane, thanks for your message. The freezer is quite small, so wouldn't be able to do that.by Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: Fasting - Good or Bad? - 10 years ago
This is very common in some cultures......It is very good for you, as long you don't try and compensate by overeating when the fasting is over. Also the immediate perception is fasting means not eating anything, but you can drink tea, water etc, and eat fruit and any steamed veges/salads with a natural dressing. So when you hear about detoxes with fruit and juices etc, its very similar to doiby Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk
Re: freezing pizza dough - 10 years ago
Thanks, at what point do you freeze it......if you do it straight away, I assume it wont rise/prove. Do you let it rise a few times and then freeze it?by Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk
freezing pizza dough - 10 years ago
I use this recipe for pizza dough, with the exception I use wholemeal flour. Can someone tell me if you can freeze pizza dough. I have read various articles on net, some saying yes, some saying the dough isn't as good because of the yeast etc. Stupid, but I had a bit left over and instead of doing my own experiment, I threw it out.by Plates - Foodlovers Food Talk
