These are the leaves I put in my salads: rocket, plainleaf parsley (the whole leaves, not chopped), baby kale leaves, baby silverbeet and spinach leaves, sorrel, nasturtium leaves and flowers, basil, chives (leaves and flowers), daylilies, baby NZ spinach leaves, broadbean leaves (the very top, tender ones) yam leaves, mizuna, pak choi, salad burnet, endive, cress, purslane, aquilegia (columbine or Granny Bonnets) and some lettuce. Neither radish leaves nor broccoli leaves are poisonous so would be fine to add but they may be a bit tough.

And don't forget beetroot leaves. Not only do they taste nice, they add a nice bit of colour because of their red veining. Did you know that in some countries the stalks and leaves of brocolli, etc are used before the head appears. When you think about it, that's what we do with most edible leafy plants: eat them before they go to seed. The head is the immature seed pod.

Well Penny G, I never knew you could eat Day Lillies. I was sure they'd have to be poisonous, so I set out to prove you wrong and find ....................................you aren't you know.
<The blooms of these can be prepared and eaten just like the blossoms of the milkweed. The flower buds are particularly good before they open. Day lily buds can be used in a green salad.>
I will now go and talk nicely to mine, although I may be in danger of blowing away. I'll be flying due west if anyone wants to wave or invite me in for some Crimble cookies and Crimble cheer????

I forgot about daylilies - they taste a bit like cucumber but milder and drier, another one that I put into my salads is dandelion greens, a nutritional powerhouse, but you have to make sure they are the earlier young leaves, the new spring growth is perfect, but once they are flowering - way too bitter
