My fruit trees don't usually get sprayed with anything at all but I am sick of quince that are riddled with codling moth so this year have decided to take action.
I was recommended by a gardener friend to spray now with liquid copper and again when the tree is in blossom.
As it is labelled as an anti fungal I was a bit dubious as to its uses for moth but have been assured it is good for just about everything.
Have you used it?

Hmm I have been told to use liquid Copper by two gardening professionals.
Oh no.
I have used pheromone traps for years but have terrible codling moth issues.
I replace them each season of course and yes they catch moths but not enough.
Oh damn.
OK an SOS to Lynda Hallinan now. I know she doesn't spray at all as has so many trees that she figures that some with have moths and others not.

Helen, copper is used as a fungicide, not an insecticide. Codling moth is very hard to eradicate without using heavy duty insecticides, and that needs to be at the right times of year. It is almost impossible to eradicate them without harming other insects including bees.

There's a very good article here [thisnzlife.co.nz] about how to control the 4 stages of codling moth in NZ using organic methods.

Agreed, copper will help with things like curly leaf on peaches and blight on tomatoes, but won't do a damn thing for moths. I've found the pheromone traps to do nothing except be a good indicator of when to bring out another method. Also, if you wait until the tree is in blossom, its too late.
