Hi there, I am new to this forum, but have been browsing the bread recipes because I am about to purchase a breville bakers oven from trademe. My main concern is making organic loaves for my family because I have recently heard that when wheat is harvested, it is cut green, and then sprayed with fungicide. Once dry it is then milled, therefore retaining all the fungicide chemicals. Has anyone used organic flour in any of their breadmaker recipes?
Rana
I copied this from the Buy Swap & Sell forum so that Rana would get some replies. I don't think all of us always read that forum. Lorna

That is great to hear. I would love to know how you know this. Are you a farmer? Is there somewhere I can look for more information about this. Are you able to advise me on any tangible differences between organic and non-organic flour? I am particularly interested in this because I do alot of baking with my kids, and want to give them the best possible food. They always have home made things in their lunchboxes, and although it was perhaps just rumour, I wanted to be safe with the flour.
I have just bought a breadmaker today too, and have found it makes lovely bread with the organic flour.

Hi Rana. Am answering from experience, I am a farmer and contractor (I harvest other peoples' crops as well). Sorry, can't help on the organic side of things. Our paddocks are sprayed for weeds before the wheat germinates, and sometimes the crop is sprayed with a chemical which stops the stalk growing too tall (sounds weird I know!). This is done when the wheat is still only 20 - 30 cm tall. Don't really know much else.
