Well there was this strange looking but delicious little brown round thing in a salad I was eating at the weekend (catered function). It looked a bit like an olive but it was sweet so it wasn't. It had vague connotations of raisin-ness but was wrinkle-free so it wasn't. Maybe a very fat, water-plumped sultana but it wasn't that sweet so it wasn't. I asked around. Blank looks. Trotted off to the kitchen bearing small thing.

Roasted grape!!

Looked it up. Seems I'm about 12 years behind the times.

We have a grapevine....laden....ripening....am going to roast one...some....looking forward to it..... a little catch-up on the culinary scene....

Yes! I have tried roasted grape...did the restaurant tell you how they roasted them? Did they add any other ingredients?

J1 - sorry I just saw your link ...interesting ...Cayenne Pepper?

No hint of cayenne pepper in the ones I ate. They seemed to have the merest hint of some other spice though which helped bamboozle me as to what they were. Maybe Chinese 5-spice or ground allspice, and then either butter or oil.
