Did I imagine things on MasterChef last night? Simon Gault told Brenton that his pastry, on his chicken and leek pie, was the best he had ever tasted on MasterChef. I went to the website to have a look at the recipe , mainly because I have a love affair going on with trying different pastrys. No pastry recipe , only, listed in the igredients, "1 sheet of butter puff pastry".
I am totally sceptical and disillusioned about the judging now.
Did anyone else pick up on this?
Cheers,
Beverley

I did pick it up and wondered whether he had made his own pastry or not. I also smiled at the comment of it being the best pastry he had ever tasted on MasterChef.
I could be wrong but it was my impression that when they did their 'shopping' for ingredients for that segment they were at Countdown.
I agree that butter puff pastry is fantastic and the ready made variety is far better than what I could make.

I think their 'shopping' at Countdown was for the protein components of their meals, and the rest of the ingredients were from the Masterchef pantry.
Simon did qualify his praise in that he said it was the best pastry he'd eaten on Masterchef. Not in his whole life! I can't imagine that anyone has made puff pastry from scratch on Masterchef as it takes too long, also the hot lights would ruin it.
I don't believe that any of the judges' remarks are spontaneous - it always comes across as scripted (and badly acted).

My boys are big fans of MC also, the point of 'scoring' my cooking. Luckily they only score it when it's something they really like and give it high marks (otherwise it would be a bit cheeky!!).
I didn't notice that Brenton used pre-made pastry last night. Which is fine (I almost always use pre-made), but for Simon to give him such high praise for it - that's TERRIBLE Muriel!

Ana's attitude leaves much to be desired. She needs to understand that this is just cooking competition, nothing more, and learn to be more generous toward her fellow competitors.
I do hope she doesn't win but of course the whole thing is a complete farce and more about advertising the judges and their respective businesses and cooking prowess, than anything else, so it probably doesn't matter whether she does or not.

Glad it wasnt just me. I thought I had missed the part of him making the pastry.
I honestly dont mind if its bought or made as long as its cooked well and tastes good.
As for the attitude of others, I would probably say the same thing if I was Ana, I think its wrong for them not to kick someone off, Chelsea clearly didnt pull her weight. But this is just my opinion.
But either way they all can cook way better than me.

I would take most of the comments they say, and expressions they give, with a grain of salt. I do love Masterchef, but I totally get that it is edited to make "good TV". The producers, without a doubt, take comments & facial expressions made about one thing, and edit them into another part of the conversation. There's still character development that goes on in reality TV!
And I reckon Ana had every right to be pissed off at working her butt off to win that last challenge, with the only reward being to sit a few rows up in the plane.
I'm still sitting on the fence with who I want to win...I guess that means I'll be happy with the outcome!
