No one has posted all day (unless you are hiding from me and posting behind my back - yes I mean you, and you and you). I have decided to break the mold and post.
What's for dinner tonight everyone? I shall make a confession for this particular household. I was out for the most wonderful lunch (believe me I am heading back there for dinner one day) at Chim Choo Ree, so my dinner will be Pate on toast. George is having leftover lamb shanks and mashed potato from last night's dinner.
So please share! Feel free to embarrass me and put my non existent cooking skills for the evening to shame....

We actually are spoilt for choice for some wonderful first class restaurants in Hamilton. I don't know why we have never made it to Chim Choo Ree before. Today was a lady's lunch for a birthday - but I am definitely making sure that the next time we dine out, that will be our restaurant of choice.
I am still drooling over our lunch - I have never ever had warm olives before - and they were beautiful. Lovely tastes of Star Anise and Orange Peel were through the olives. It was just sensational.
Actually if anyone is heading to Hamilton for Field Days, get yourself booked in to Chim Choo Ree for either lunch or dinner - it is well worth it!!

Bev as I sit in my slightly chilly office and peer out to a very grey and damp day I would quite happily twinkle my nose and be transported to California!
Irene I also find it hard to think of my children as being that age and size. Freddie asked last night whether cars were invented when I was a child .... he almost didn't get an ice cream for dessert!

Doesn't California sound lovely! I wish Bev and hope you are enjoying every warm moment. Helen, when my boys were younger one asked me if we had roads when I was little.
Tonight's dinner is courtesy of the crockpot. Wiener Schnitzel (not crumbed), lots of fresh garlic and Vegeta Stock. This will be my second outing for the crockpot this week (some weeks it gets out more than I do!)

Marylew, the Wiener Schnitzel is my own recipe. I just layer slices in the crockpot and in between each layer sprinkle fresh garlic finely chopped, and Vegeta stock powder. Then I just barely cover with water. It sounds plain, but it is actually quite tasty with the garlic and stock powder. You could add a tin of tomatoes if you wish instead of liquid?
Lamb Shanks (had them earlier in the week), and I cheat with those and use a packet mix. Although there is a recipe I have done for Lamb Shanks from scratch. But cheating suits me fine on week nights

Marylew,
You may like to try this recipe I make with Schnitzel. It is hubby's favourite, to the point that I rarely do the breadcrumb way anymore.
Wilt a good amount of Spinach or Silverbeet, season, set aside to cool. When cool, squeeze the moisture out.
Lightly toast some Pinenuts. Cool.
Grate tasty Cheddar Cheese and add to other ingredients.
After bashing the Schnitzel , lay the filling on each piece , roll up and secure with a toothpick.
Brown the rolled up pieces on all sides in a little oil and braise on pan until you can tell that they are cooked through.
I always make a gravy to go under them on the plate, then drizzled over the top as well.
Serve with mashed potatoes and glazed carrots, or, vegetables of choice.
Cheers,
Beverley.

Irene, my family have proved the theory to be right over and over again. Both My mother's and my sister's birthdays were 21st September. My Daughter's birthday was 24th September and mine is 28th September. One of my grand-daughter's birthday is 12th September, and she's the only one born in this hemisphere, but it WAS Christmas time nine months before!
