Food Discovery of the Day

I have a recipe or two that uses thick pad thai rice noodles and I always reluctantly buy those highly processed white rice ones [wellmart.co.nz] and grudgingly eat their nutritionally empty carbs.

Then today in Moore Wilson's I discovered these!! Brown rice noodles AND red rice noodles! [www.explore-asian.com] Where have they been all my life?! (That $23 is not a NZ price - they're around NZ$6.)

Have you discovered any products better than what you'd normally buy lately?

I know I should cook my own but I used some of the Leaderbrand packaged cooked beetroot the other day to make beetroot hummus and think it is such a great thing to have on hand when you want hummus in a hurry.

I agree Bev. Their cumin Gouda is really delicious too.

Meyer vintage Gouda is so good. Possibly my favourite NZ cheese.

Along the same lines, J1, my local Fruit World now stocks fresh wholemeal noodles. And re the cheese, at a craft fair I recently found Matatoki Golden Gouda. It's a younger cheese than the (delicious) Meyer Vintage, but full of flavour with a lovely soft texture.

Yes Helen, the cooked beetroot has turned me into a beetroot eater.

I generally have a packet of that Beetroot in the fridge.

Me too on the beetroot, I often add one to a breakfast smoothie, with berries, mango and yogurt, a dash of honey, and some milk or water. Adds a slightly earthy but very pleasant flavour and gets in a bit more of the 5+.
