I always have a bottle of green olives and capers in my fridge or pantry and I find they can be used to spruce up so many dishes such as
Add olives to roast Chicken dinner
Add olives or capers to a pasta sauce
Add olives to a vegetarian or meat pizza
Add capers to a salmon or seafood pizza
Add capers to baked fish

apart from the staples of course, you will always find in my pantry a duplicate supply of:
Passata
Tinned Tomatoes
Tinned Peas WITHOUT Mint - when I can find them (have 2 particular recipes where tinned are best)
Tinned Cannellini Beans
In my freezer:
Butter (always purchased when on special)
Chorizo Sausages (1kg free flow bag)
In my fridge:
Capers
Horse Radish

They definitely aren't soggy Ingrid. We use them in Romanian recipes - one is a salad with finely chopped boiled chicken, carrots, potatoes, olives, drained (of course) peas, and mayonnaise. The other is chorizo and onion fried,, then add the peas and cooked in passata. We had that last week and unfortunately it is really hard to find tinned peas that do not have mint, so we had to resort to frozen. They just aren't the same.
Previously I would never have thought to buy tinned peas, but George has turned me.
Just a ps re the butter..... I usually have at least 3 or 4 in the freezer, as we always have one kept in the crock in the pantry and one is kept in the fridge for mashed potatoes and baking (which is a very rare occurrence for baking to happen in the house - but you never know)

Hi IngridO - I have extra virgin, lemon-infused (OMG - so yum), and either garlic or onion infused and a 'light' one as well as truffle oil.
I had a look at the vinegars after I posted and I have; malt, white wine, tarragon, red wine and 2 sorts of balsamic! I don't like salad dressings as such, but a find a small sprinkle of the above delish. Maybe I need to whittle them down a bit...

I have extra-virgin olive oil, argan oil, sesame oil and canola. Also malt vinegar, white vinegar, apple cider vinegar and balsamic vinegar. I see no reason to reduce my choice, only reasons to increase them. Variety is the spice of life. Talking of spice, I have such a great variety of herbs and spices, it would take too long and be too boring for me to list them here. Let's just say I have enough variety to be able to produce dishes from almost anywhere in the world.

Pantry staples, tinned tomatoes, chick peas, black beans, creamed corn, coconut cream as well as a lot of herbs spices, and vinegars and soya sauces. Fridge sour cream and cottage cheese, parmesan, feta and haloumi ( each replaced every week when used), Freezer ginger, spinach mash potatoes( I swore I would never buy, but a great time saver) peas and corn.

Ice blocks! I freeze leftover cream in cubes - taken out frozen they can be added to pasta sauce, used to deglaze a pan after cooking fish etc as required. Once I found it worked with fresh herbs, dill 'iceblocks' made of chopped dill packed down in ice cube trays, with water poured over them, and tarragon 'iceblocks'. Kept in the freezer, and defrosted as needed they are as good as fresh, and a great way to save the surplus when you buy a bunch of herbs for a special recipe, and don't use it all. I'll do the same with chervil when it's next in our farmers market, and have recently experimented with Annabel Langbein's harissa sauce - make a batch and freeze it in cubes. I also freeze our locally-grown root ginger, and scrape off shavings when needed. I wouldn't be without these small luxuries, and as a bonus this is a good way to avoid waste.

This is me too! I have a very well stocked pantry, fridge and freezer, but can never find the stuff I'm sure I have, so then I buy it again, and next time discover I have two or three of the same thing!

I like to have all of the above too. In addition I have in the freezer: wraps (must be Farrah), ciabatta buns, bagels, extra thin vogels, croissants (the ones you leave to rise then cook); kidney beans, chick peas, lentils, cannellini beans, lemon juice, lime juice, home made stock, frozen roast kumara and pumpkin (for hummus), etc, etc, etc. I have a chest freezer, a six drawer upright, and three large fridge/freezers. Overstocked? probably! My "main" freezer is the upright, and I have a list on my fridge with what and how many are in each drawer. In theory I mark stuff off as I remove it, but every now and then I go through it again and redo my list. The freezers with the fridges are for specifics, and the chest I am trying to empty, as I use it for overflow. Unfortunately it seems very full again. My list is what keeps me sane though, as it is how I find things. I try to freeze things flat (vacuum packed), and store them like a filing cabinet. Again, it's easy to find things and remove them.
