Ive just got myself back into the swing of online food shopping. I did it for a few months whilst on maternity leave but discontinued it thinking I should actually be doing it myself and saving on the delivery!
Anyway fast forward 3 years and Ive decided shopping with a 4 year old who runs away and an 8 year old who annoys the 4 year old, Im giving it ago again!
I placed my first order and noticed...
I couldnt buy an entire celery, only chopped and bagged.
I had to hunt for the option to buy salmon @ $25 per kg and buy 1/2 a kg. One other of the options was you could only buy the entire KG.
I couldnt find Kaitia Fire - the green one OR Japanese Shichimi.
On the off chance I looked for beef cheeks but they werent there.
Delivery will be $11 for a spend over $200 so taking into account the petrol, time and stress - Im hoping this will save me money, sanity and trips to the supermarket.
Does any one do it? Any thoughts the good, the bad?
Can I place a request for things I know thy have at the supermarket but not avail online?

About 100 yrs ago( it feels like this) when on line first started, I persevered with it as I hate going to the supermarket but I found that if you were a "eat the same thing every week" family it was easy because you could just shoot off the same list but we weren't so it was a new list every week. The new list took ages and was frustrating when I couldn't order things so I gave up. I think about trying it again every now and and then, especially when it is cold and raining but haven't done so yet, may be this winter,

I quite like it because I think it does save me money on my grocery bill. I am less likely to buy a lot of extras when I shop online and keep a close eye on the total $$. Plus I also seem to plan the weeks meals a little better if I am thinking about what I am buying rather than buying what I happen to see that takes my fancy.
Having said that I don't remember to do an online shop all the time - it's an intermittent thing for me.

Week 2 - and it was the highlight of our night waiting for the delivery man!
Mistakes I made this week...
I bought a KG of LAMB mince instead of beef and have no idea what to make with it or whether my kids will like it.
I also ordered 3 packets of my fav chips (Kettle) as they were 1.69 per packet only to discover that they were the small packets - lol thats probably a good thing!
I ordered 3 packets of dishwasher powder but managed to realise and phoned them up and rectify but added things id forgotten.
So far, for and extra $9, Im LOVING it!!!!

Re the excess lamb mince. This is a fav in our house. The quantities of herbs etc are entirely personal taste. I cook the patties on the BBQ, much less mess than in a fry pan. I also add sweet chilli sauce along with the yoghurt.
Lamb Patties
4-6 large pita bread
1/2 cup plain thick yoghurt
500 grams ground lamb
1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves, can sub or mix in mint as well
Salt
2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Yogurt Sauce
1.5-2 cups plain thick yogurt
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
2 small clove garlic, crushed
Salt
Cayenne
Fresh lime juice
Plus coarsely chopped iceberg or cos lettuce
1. For the Lamb Patties: Cut 1/2-inch piece from top of each pita round. Chop these pita scraps finely, then mash them into yogurt and set aside to soften for 5 minutes. Mix lamb, cilantro, 1/2 teaspoon salt, cumin, cayenne, and yogurt mixture together thoroughly with your hands. Form meat mixture into six 4-5cm wide patties. Place patties on plate and put plate in freezer until patties are firm, about 5 minutes.
2. For Yogurt Sauce: Meanwhile, combine yogurt, cilantro, and garlic in small bowl and season with salt, cayenne, and lime juice to taste. Refrigerate until needed.
3. Heat oil in 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until just smoking. Add the patties and cook until well browned, about 2 minutes. Flip patties over, reduce heat to medium, and continue to cook until well browned on second side, about 6 minutes. Transfer patties to paper-towel-lined plate and let drain for several minutes.
4. Nestle 3 patties into each pita round with some of lettuce and spoonful of yogurt sauce. Serve, passing remaining yogurt sauce separately.
