Does anyone have a recipe for Dumplings for a meaty stew?

Hi IngridO - I just make a scone dough, slightly 'wetter' than usual, and add what ever fresh herbs I have, or sometimes some grated tasty cheese. I find they come out light and fluffy.

Equal quantities of plain flour, soft breadcrumbs (from decent bread) and grated suet or chopped butter, combined well with a fork. Add 1 tsp baking powder and a pinch of salt per cup of mixture, mix well. With a knife, mix in enough cold water to make a soft sticky dough similar to scone dough.

What about making Gnocchi and dropping them in ?

I think that would be quite fiddly Vanessa.
I just make a suet dumpling as per TPANDAV, I add fresh herbs to go with the flavours in the stew. Rosemary, thyme, parsley, chives etc.

This recipe has little herb scone type dumplings that go crunchy on the top and soft underneath.
They are delicious.

If you have an Edmond's recipe book, check in that. It's very like what Heather posted.
Helen, that looks like a nice 'cobbler'.
