Has anyone tried the hand made sourdough bread produced by Bread Asylum in Manawahe? It is delivered on Fridays to Vetro which is our fabulous Mediterranean food store here in Rotorua. I believe the bread is sold at markets in Whakatane and Rotorua. Oh boy is it good. Not cheap as anything artisan should not be - but worth every cent. They do not have door sales.

The bakery is a separate building, over the stream on their lovely property. The owners collected old windows and doors from Europe so the bakery has a elegant look. There is a small visual tour on YouTube.

I am not affiliated but believe the news of good products should be shared.

Kia ora,
I have eaten this bread twice after buying it at Matata from the Drift coffee container shop on main road from tauranga to whakatane. This is the BEST bread I have ever eaten. It is perfect and very cheap for the quality and the price. Best French Baker I have tasted in NZ. Please support them and buy bread. Amazing product in such an unassuming and beautiful environment Please pass on as we are so lucky to have a product of this calibre here.
Mauri ora
