Mediterranean food in Hamilton

We've been driving to Tauranga to shop at Vetro for things like Greek olive oil, olives and artisan cheeses. I'm getting really sick of the horrible drive over the Kaimai range, and it occurred to me that it might be worth looking in Hamilton. The Hamilton branch of Vetro seems to have closed down and I haven't found anything similar by online search. Does anyone know of anywhere that might be interesting (apart from the cheese shop in Hillcrest, which we do know).

I thought that Vetro had an online website where orders can be placed and delivered. The link below may help.

Yes, they do sell on line Marnie, but the range is quite limited.

I'm still searching for something in Hamilton - it seems incredible that a city of that size doesn't have a specialty grocery shop.

Not sure if they have what you require, but La Cave in Riverlea Road have a selection of goods. If I think of anyone else will post

maybe its Le Cave... it's in Riverlea Road anyway

TPandav - it is incredible but almost true.

For a while we had Nosh Vetro and another place at the Base (that didn't last long). Nosh closed a few years back and Vetro changed hands too.

I tend to go to one of the better New Worlds (Te Rapa or Rototuna) or get things on my Auckland trips. There are bits and pieces in a few other places like Punnet in Tamahere and I should visit La Cave again.

Nosh was brilliant at the start - but they had problems with turnover of fresh produce in my opinion (I had issues) and then they tried discounting milk to get people in but of course it did not lead to people actually adding other foods to their baskets. Crazy marketing strategy for a gourmet store.

Thanks for that Cheeselover, I'll stop searching and give up.

Nosh in Auckland sounds the same as the Hamilton one - it started off with a good range and motivated staff, but quickly the range shrank (I suppose they stopped paying their bills) and the shelves filled up with cheap and nasty convenience foods.. The veges were always mediocre. Farro, on the other hand, has maintained a really high standard, especially the meat and cheeses.

Farro Fresh in Auckland is great and I hear wonderful things about Moore Wilson (have only been once).

I visit Sabato about once a year too.

I think there should be a gap that could be filled by someone else.....
