I usually buy Pic's peanut butter out of loyalty, they were the first to make natural peanut butter mainstream.
Now with choices e.g Fix & Fogg, I am wondering if there is any difference in the product or just in the branding.
Any thoughts from you?
We go through a large jar every few weeks and I am about to buy in bulk for catering for the rowing kids so interested in any brand/price comparison.

Like you Helen, I buy Pic's out of loyalty because he was the first to save us from the awful peanut butter we were expected to buy. I have tried Fix & Fogg but my loyalty remains.
Fix & Fogg use Argentinian hi-oleic peanuts. Pic's uses Australian hi-oleic peanuts.
Fix & Fogg's standard peanut butter (i.e., crunchy or smooth) is 375g, Pic's is 380g.

Our son lives in Girona, Spain. This is a lovely city close to the Pyrenees and the French border, so many professional road cyclists live there.
Kiwi's gravitate to each other world wide it seems, so it wasn’t long before our son became close friends with a lovely career biker from the Nelson area.
On one of our visits up there we were asked to bring the biggest jar of Pics we could as Jack was craving some. In those days it was in glass jars so we had an anxious time until we unpacked our case and found our layers of wrapping had kept it safe and intact.
His face lit up when we handed it to him, he rushed and got a spoon then ate the whole jar there and then, just as it was. We were gobsmacked!
These guys consume thousands of calories daily as they train for hours at a time - but it still astounded us.
Nothing like the taste of something from home, is there..

Peanut Butter lovers if you're ever in Dunedin try the locally made Bay Road peanut butter. They also have a great little cafe on site which makes some delicious goodies using peanut butter - we had toast with peanut butter, avocado, and tomato relish - it was really good! They also sell their peanut butter at the Farmers Market at the Railway Station on a Saturday morning.

We have a new bulk buying store just opened near us and you can make your own peanut butter there. Haven’t tried it yet, but I used to make my own when the children were young. I just roasted the peanuts, shelled them then put them through the food processor with enough oil to make the right consistency. It was really easy and the children used to love helping too.

Pic Picot of Pic's peanut butter is trialling the growing of peanuts in New Zealand. Sounds good.

Used to aways buy Sanitarium (usually crunchy) because it had no sugar and was not made in China., but have now discovered Fix & Fogg Super Chunky, we love it and won't be going back to Sanitarium again. Our daughter lives in California, peanut butter over there is full of sugar and like supermarket run of the mill bread, also more sugar, but come to think about it I would say fructose. I always buy Artisan bread over there, and although a little more expensive worth it. Love Peanut butter on Vogels toast.

This has reminded me of a family holiday in the South Island when the kids were young.
I went out for a walk and came home to a very distressed 4 (ish) year old, claiming that dad had tried to poison him with rotten peanut butter.
It was simply that Ed had bought a mainstream brand at the local 4 square as there was not artisan style natural peanut butter to be found.
The jar got left behind at the motel as none of the kids would touch it. haha.

There is also great peanut (almond, cashew, and chilli) made by Revive Cafe in Auckland. Jeremy is very proactive and often has specials on his newsletter for online purchase, also many more products which he makes and uses in his cafes which are vegan and the food is amazing and so delicious.

Local Bin Inn has a machine when you can grind your own.,......course or smooth and take your own glass container..........Good Value as you know EXACTLY what's in the peanut butter...............and tastes pretty good on a sliced of 4 grain toasted bread with a nice (not fully ripe) banana sliced on top.

Has anyone tried Forty Thieves? It's at Moore Wilsons and online. They make astonishingly good hazelnut and choc butter - so much nicer than the big brand one that's mostly palm oil (you know the one!) And also peanut butter which I haven't tried yet.
Also, thinking about rowing and peanut butter, did you know Fix and Fogg allow you to sell their peanut butter as a fund raiser?

I make my own in my thermomix. I’m not a peanut butter fan, but my husband is. He doesn’t eat a huge quantity, so it’s good to be able to make as little or much as I want, to have it fresh. It’s also very easy to replicate any of the commercial varieties, eg F&F everything butter. Less than a minute and I’m done, using only peanuts!

Yes have the Forty theives one at the moment. We go between pic's, frog and fix, but thought i would give this one a go. We have a peanutbutter connoisseur in the family who has noticed that Pic's isn't as oily as before and now buys their peanut oil to add in. I wonder if they are removing a bit more of the oils to make the new product?

Actually, Pic's Peanut Oil isn't a new product. It's been around for years. Also, they don't actually produce it. It's pressed and made in Australia, using Australian peanuts and the byproduct (dry peanut butter) is used by the Australians as an ingredient in other foods. The story is on the Pic's website [www.picspeanutbutter.com].

I make my own peanut butter, very easy and very like Pics, (I think better)
400g blanched peanuts. I use 300g blanched and 100g skin on.. gives lovely look and taste ( Just like PICS)
2tsp sea salt flakes (I use plain salt)
2tsp peanut oil. Or other neutral oil
Method
Heat oven to 200C/180fan. Tip the peanuts onto a large baking tray, place in the oven and roast for 10 mins, stirring now and then to ensure they don’t catch at the edges. When golden brown, remove from the oven and leave to cool completely.
Tip the nuts into a food processor, and add the salt. Blend for 4-5 mins, until you’re left with a smooth nut butter, if you want to loosen the consistency, add a drizzle of oil and blend again.
For crunchy put ¼ of nuts in processor first and just blitz a little, put aside and process remainder to smooth
Add crunchy nuts and stir through.
NOTE
After a minute, the peanut butter looks more like a thick paste. It needs another minute or two.
Then, after a bit more processing the whole mixture just sort of gives up and turns into a silky smooth peanut butter. Add salt now
