Electrolux or Bosch wall oven question October 05, 2019 10:09AM |

Hi fellow foodies,
I asked here on this forum a few weeks ago for recommendations for either gas or induction ovens for our planned kitchen refit & progress is slowly being made - we've met with an electrician & decided to go with an induction oven, also have had a look at some Consumer magazines too - although this just ended up being a bit more confusing on choices, lol
So, both me & DH like the 1 1/2 wall oven idea (we often are cooking more than one dish, plus have family over for meals often), & so thought we had narrowed our choices down to either an Elecrolux or a Bosch wall oven.
I did ask on another chat forum for any personal recommendations & another contender was suggested, being an Ariston (which is part of the Electrolux family apparently). But these are only single wall ovens.
Do any FL readers have any of the more recent Bosch, Ariston or Electrolux wall ovens? Over the past 20 years & various house moves I have replaced several ovens, but I do think that the models (& possibly their reputations & service aspects have changed somewhat for me to base a choice on something from years ago)
I do like to hear of real reviews, as I personally take those reviews on the manufacturer's websites with a grain of salt. And is there anything else I need to consider?
Many thanks,

Our wall oven is Bosch, three years old and it was at the cheaper end of the range. It has been unsatisfactory in two respects, first that the temperature is unreliable and tends to be too hot when it is set to more than about 180c, second that the childproof lock comes on randomly, often it clicks on when the set temperature is reached but also it will come on when the oven isn't even turned on.
I do very little baking so the temperature problems don't have much impact, but the random padlocking is really annoying. I know we need to get a replacement control unit but I haven't had the strength of purpose to start that process.
I have to add that our dishwasher is also Bosch, about five years old, has been moved several times and it has been wonderful throughout.

thanks Tpandav,
we too have a Bosch dishwasher & it has been really good; can almost say the same for our Bosch washing machine so I know its a good brand. But interesting to read your comments on your oven.
I am going (wall) oven shopping/looking this week so I do hope that my "research" - aka hunting out personal reviews will pay off & I wont be talked into a bargain deal with some older store product somewhere
I am by habit a list maker & checker offer, so will prob end up here at home with yet more ideas haha

I've got a 3.5yo Bosch Series 9 oven. I've been very pleased with the cooking, but I dislike the control panel. It is a pain, and errors sometimes when I cook at very high heat (buffalo drumsticks at 240C). Much like TPANDAV, I know I've got to deal with it, but I really just lack the energy for a potential fight. I will be trying to get Bosch to pay for it -- I believe the oven is out of warranty, but the controls shouldn't fail after only 3.5 years. I was buying a whole kitchen load of appliances at the time and trying to sta\y in budget so I didn't go for the pyrolytic model, and I wish I had It has some self cleaning coating on the sides and rear wall, and that works well, but everything else still requires Easy Off and a good scrub. That's just a function of cleaning, not oven performance though.
That said, the other model I was seriously considering was an Electrolux. I've had a few Westinghouse ovens in the past and they've all been fantastic, and Westinghouse being the cheaper cousin of Electrolux, I hope they would be the same or better.
I've only had one experience with an Ariston appliance, a dryer, and it was not a positive one.

thanks Irene & Jenna - my shortlist is down to either a Westinghouse or Electrolux now. As Jenna notes, they are in the same "family" so it is a cost factor now (often the deciding point), so depending on how the appliance (actual) shop goes with hubby, I might probably will be ordering a pyrolytic oven.
Many thanks all for your helpful comments
