We're currently on a 3 week holiday in Brisbane, house sitting for family. When they get back we have decided to treat ourselves to a couple of nights in the city, staying at the Next Hotel, Queen St. So I'm looking for recommendations of places for food, good food, not as my BIL suggested pub grub, but really nice, different, interesting food, places that go beyond the "chicken parma" and "steak sammie" that seem so beloved of the Aussies. We'll have 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches to try out your suggestions.

Hi, have stayed there before. Sadly when we were there most of the restaurants weren't open, so we ended up at the Jamie Oliver restaurant, and it wasn't great. Actually as you come out the entrance to the hotel there is a little Italian place on the street, we had a lovely platter and drink there. Also you can do worse than eat at the restaurant in the hotel, we had a very nice meal there, turns out a family friend's son is one of the chefs. Our other couple of meals that we had in the city weren't great, DH's brother and SIL aren't foodies at all, and I ended up giving up and just going with the flow. Oh, the Arts center across the river has a restaurant, I'd have loved to try it, but was closed when we were there.
