I haven't been able to find mung sprouts for the last few weeks.
It seems like a very odd thing to not be available as they are not seasonal.
I know I can sprout them myself but I just like the convenience of grabbing a bag of them to use atop curries, pad Thai and in spring rolls.
Has anyone else noticed them missing?

Maybe the mung beans are stuck Australia, which is where I believe we import our beans. Or maybe on the ship which was transporting them. There are so many things we take for granted and as we don't ourselves suffer too much from the effects of covid, it's hard to remember why some items are missing from our supermarket/shop shelves.

I understand that bean sprouts are a particularly risky product, especially as they are almost always eaten raw or barely warmed. When I was in Europe about 10 years ago there was a big scare (salmonella I think, not sure) which eventually traced the contamination back to an enormous bean sprout production facility in Germany.
I think the vulnerability is due to the temperature and alkalinity at which the sprouts are manufactured.
