I am intending making a vegetable lasagne today to use up some dried lasagne sheets that I bought from Bin Inn some time ago. Does anyone happen to know if these sheets are precooked or if I have to cook them first? The Bin Inn I bought them from is closed today soI can’t phone the to ask. Thanks in advance for your help.

Chris, I have never bought the Binn Inn lasagne sheets but I buy either Diamond or Remo in packets and use them straight from the packet. Diamond state on the front 'no pre-cooking required'.and Remo refer to them as 'instant' lasagne sheets. So I'm sure the ones you've got will be the same and you can happily use them without pre-cooking.

Thank you Barbara Anne. You are most likely right. Bin Inn would buy in bulk from one of the producers and they would be the instant variety of sheets.. I had bought those sheets on a whim. I have not made lasagne for many years but when I did, used fresh pasta. Anyway, I was a bit late seeing your post and pre cooked mine for a few minutes. They are nice and thin. I made an Ottolenghi style mushroom lasagne and largely winged it. It’s bubbling away in the oven and smells so good. It’s a very late lunch today as we went for a long walk to enjoy the glorious weather.

...sounds delicious, Chris, it's funny how lasagne conjures up the idea of meat sauce but of course there are so many other things you can make lasagne with and it makes sense with the cost of even humble mince skyrocketing.
I have been looking at vegetarian options lately - neither of us are vegetarian, but you simply don't need meat at every meal. Tonight it's black bean tacos - never tried them before but looking forward to something different.
Sorry to digress...

Same here, Barbara Anne. We eat chicken and fish but we actually really enjoy vegetarian meals. Black Bean tacos sound great and something I will try. I use black beans in Hamburger like patties. So good. The lasagne was delicious, particularly with a good slosh of red wine added to the mushrooms. I layered lots of fried mushrooms and slices of baked aubergine as well as passata and cheeses. I will definitely make this dish again. Again thanks for your advice.

I use the instant lasagne sheets quite often. I usually soak them in the sink with warm water while I prepare everything else, it doesn't fully soften them but it does moisten them so that if your filling isn't particularly wet they will still be nice and tender. That might be useful too if they have been sitting in the pantry for a while.

Just idling through the "Forum" when Lasagna sheets caught my eye. I'm GF and I can't buy the wide Pappadelle type pasta . I was making a vegan GF DF meal last night and wanted wide pasta noodles to mix with a sauce of cashew nuts, nutritional yeast etc and spinach. I soaked the pasta sheets for about 5 minutes in warm water and then cut them into wide strips with kitchen scissors and cooked them as usual. They were delicious and now I can use the other sheets I have in the pantry.

You can use dried sheets as is...just make your sauce a bit wetter, the sheets will absorb a bit.
Mostly I use fresh......I have one of those machines....wind..wind...wind...but I like fresh lasagna pasta, also for making my own ravioli....shop ones are ok...some...but mostly a tiny bit of what looks like playdoh....er...I like mine to have a bit more flavour and stuffing in them.
