At first I was horrified (it looked so "messy", then I reminded myself that humans tend to baulk at change, then I discovered that if you log in you get heaps of extra, great features including the "new" word that indicates new postings. I would suggest to all those put off by it, log in, try out the features, and make yourself stick with the forum for 10 days (by which time I bet you'll be happy again).
The only thing I have found that is a negative for me so far is that my mouse scroll will no longer change the text size, which someone else has mentioned as well. Helen, can this be fixed?
As for the colours being bland, didn't the previous forum look have no colour, or have I missed something? (smiley face with question marks above it)

I have re-registered and had to add S at the end as Sharon was already registered to someone else. I know there is another Sharon who contributes from a NZ address.
The jury is still out on the format, I have no problem with the font, the date is neither here nor there to me, having the time there is a bonus as if you were logged in at 8am and someone submitted as 11.30am, it's a "new".
Regards
Sharon

Hi Irene,
Unfortunately that's not possible. Almost all forums list messages in the order they are posted, mostly because that's what makes sense when reading the messages (otherwise people reading for the first time would have to read them backwards!). Hopefully the new feature which allows you to go directly to the last page will help on long threads though.

Hi Raewyn,
Are you able to find out what Screen Reader software your friends are using. I will make every attempt to make things easier.

Hi Lyn,
I'm sorry you don't like the new format. It was necessary to upgrade at some point for the purposes of security. As time goes on, any software becomes outdated, and easier for hackers to compromise, so when new versions become available, we do need to upgrade. I held off on upgrading until I was happy that the newer version of this forum software was stable, and that all the old messages would be transferred smoothly to the new system.
I will be working on making a few modifications over the coming days based on the feedback that we get.
I know change can be a little unsettling, but the new format does offer some great new features that we've never had access to before. Hopefully we will be able to tweak a few things to settle on a happy medium that everyone is comfortable with.
As always, please feel free to email me with any feedback on webmaster@foodlovers.co.nz. The more specific you can be, the easier it makes my job.

Hi Marie,
I think you can still 'bookmark; your favourite threads.
I will see if anything can be done about the link colours, so it is easier to view which posts you have read.
If you register, threads will be marked with a little "NEW" label if you haven't read them, or there are new posts.
I hope that helps.

Hi Lorna,
I don't think the date is in American format? From where I'm sitting, it says "October 17, 2005 07:28AM" on your post. Do you see something different?
The date format is actually better than the old format, as I was never able to change that from American format.

This is a feature available to registered members. You don't need to register to post, but it gives you access to better features.
This should help protect your privacy, as once registered, you have control over whether your email address is displayed or not. This is something a lot of people were concerned about previously with the old forums.
For those of us who don't mind email addresses being displayed, we have that choice.

I don't like much it either. The font is awful. It is like a default font when you can't use your choosen one. The style too is like a dafault. It look amateur and unprofessional. I MUCH prefer the old style. This looks home made on a cheap piece of software. (sorry for being so blunt if I hurt the designers feelings).

Hi Claire.
Well, I have to admit, I can now use the forums. However, I'm afraid I still haven't been won over by the new format. My screen reader is window eyes, but it wouldn't matter what screen reader I use, it still takes an awful lot longer to go through the forums. This is simply because I have to read everything either line by line, or letting the reader babble on till kingdom come. Unfortunately, you've just confirmed one of my most dreaded thgoughts about the new format, the quote option. It makes messages even longer to read. So, while i'll still try to use the forums, if the old format was brought back i'd be an extremely happy camper.

Andrew

doesnt pay to get so busy life passe's you by, i had no idea Foodies was up for a change. and yes i do miss the old forum, so easy and quick to scan.....and easy to pick and choose, and not to many pages to screed throu.
But im not anti, just stuck in my ways i spose......

One way to help with this is to increase your text size on your
browser. In IE and Firefox go to View then Text size. Increase.
Hope this helps

Thanks to everyone who gave constructive feedback.
I have made some tweaks based on your feedback, which should make the fonts easier to read, and you can now resize them to your own taste.
Andrew: I'm still working on screen readers.
I'm also still working on putting the smilies back up.

Hi, I came back from a weekend away to find my old favourite had gone, and was replaced by a new format. I hope that this has been done to try and avoid the horrible spam postings we have been having recently.
I am not against change that is better but so far I havent been able to find out how to use this site in a user friendly way. How can I tell what threads I have read and what I havent? Its difficult to know where to start so I think I'll give it a rest for a while and come back, maybe, later on when the 'kinks' have been ironed out.
